Oh boy-- PC Woes... Emergency!!!

I am right now at this moment building a new PC. It comes with the following--

Antec Performance Case (with 430 Watts TruPower).
2800+ Athlon 64
1 GB Twin Pack Corsair PC-3200
BFGTech GeForce 6800 OC
Abit KV8 Pro Motherboard
Hitachi SATA 80 GB HDD
Sony DVD+/-RW Dual Layer

I built everything and it is perfectly connected, every fan is spinning and every light is turned on. The only problem is... as I turn it on, there is a FREAKING LOUD whistling noise and that makes me assume there is an error with it. The LCD onboard numbers tell me it is stuck on "25". Which I checked in the ABIT manual and it says...

"Early PCI Initialization -
-Enumerate PCI bus number.
-Assign memory & I/O resource.
-Search for a valid VGA device and VGA bios, and put it into C000:0"

Now, I tried one by one, taking the RAM away to 512 MB (one stick away). It still did the same thing. Emitting a very loud WHISTLE. So I proceeded to take away the video card and it seemingly booted up perfect With the "FF" sign meaning it is going to try booting the hard drive up. But I haven't installed Windows yet. Now as the code "25" tells me, it is proably searching for a valid VGA device and I guess this is where it is STUCK at. Why is this? Is it really the video card? I am really stuck here. I got this video brand NEW from NewEgg. I hope this isnt a bad product and it looks like the video card is brand new too (untouched).

Any clue? Help me out quick within the next hour. :X:X TY.

does that card have a suplimental power input?

and if it does, make sure the connections are correct, sounds like the error I had when the power on my 9700 came a little loose.

then try swapping a different vid card
 
The card needs power plugged into it. The whistling you're hearing is the card screaming "HEY!!!!! You need to plug power into me!!" Newer high end video cards can't get enough power from the motherboard alone and need additional power plugged into them.

If you look closely at the back of the card, you can see the speaker that's emitting the alarm and the power connector.

Plug a power cable (like you would a hard drive) into the card and it'll work fine.
 
I did try a different video and it passed. And yes, thank you sir for reminding me to put in the power plug even though I told myself, "This vid card needs the extra power plug" earlier. :p

I know that's the problem, but I am looking at that pic from newegg, and for the life of me, I can't see the plug...

so I take it that you have it plugged in?

is that extra power source on a splitter?

did you try different molex's [sp?]

try that card in a different PC?

check all the caps on the vid card, and make sure nothing is damaged.

the thing is, unless that card is either incompatable, or totally dead, you should at least be able to boot unless there is a power issue.

It's pretty difficult to see because it's black. In the pic link I posted, it's immediatly to the left of the speaker. The speaker's on the bottom right of the card picture where the VGA connectors are facing up and you're looking at the heatsink.

The video is fine but I have a new issue (great). I have a SATA Hitachi hard drive as I listed above and it has a SATA driver disk with it. I had a floppy drive installed to have the SATA driver installed. I cannot run Windows installation because it cannot read the hard drive (it's SATA after all). So, I need to know what to do about this. I can't get the SATA disk to work or something. I have the plugs in and whatnot so what exactly do I do? I hope this would be the VERY last issue I have with this complicated PC building. I also do not have any experience with SATA. So let me know soon. :) :X TY...

If I am understanding correctly (your description is a little confusing)

I am assuming you meant you do have a floppy installed...

when you boot off of the windows disk for install, hit f8 (or f6, I forget which, but it prompts you on the bottom of the screen) to install 3rd party drivers...

load any raid driver disks you have first, then switch out the floppy disks, and simply load the sata drivers.

now, I am just guessing here because it's hard to understand your specific issue, and I never worked with sata, but that is what the 3rd party driver screen is for, to install drivers that the drives might need for installation...

what was wrong with the video?

also, when building, you either have a perfect buildout, or every little things goes wrong
 
Thing is... WHY DO I NEED RAID? It's only one hard drive. Maybe I already got the definition of "RAID" wrong? I thought it was for dual hard drives. But why do I need RAID...?

You dont and you wont, its a stragety to make windows install pause and let you put in the SATA drivers.


You gotta be quick with the F6 key, you get about 5 seconds or you will miss it. It happens fairly early in the install. Be ready.
 
Done that. Now a new problem. I tried loading 3 of the 4 provided SATA drivers (Intel's and some other name). The first Intel driver loaded and Windows proceeded loading the rest of the drivers only except now it ends up with a final3_session_initialization stop error. (wtf:(:() So I tried 2 other ones, it works. A problem is that it still can't detect the hard drive. Damn, if only I could get THIS TO WORK, I can be 99% home free. :( What is going on...?

Just loaded all drivers, won't work. Now I'm as stuck as being stranded on a 1 square foot island. Everything sucks balls. I am losing hope. :( I can't replace the SATA hard drive. I am building this for a friend and he is waiting as of this moment... sigh.

These are the drivers you need:

On the floppy provided by Abit, you need to use the VIA VT8237 drivers. All the others will not work properly as they're for different motherboard chipsets, not the one that board. If those drivers don't allow you to install Windows, then you'll need to download the updated ones from the link above.
 
and just so you know, even though you are not using raid, you are using the ide ports that the raid chipset controls...

in other words: those aren't raid drivers, those are chipset drivers....

also, chill a bit, your frustration is only going to lead to more and more errors...
