as the title says my folding rigs are going to be offline for the forseeable future. i moved all the components around today in preparation for the build of my new rig. however upon starting back up neither machine will boot into win xp. now i will admit that this is partly my fault as both machines went from running an amd to an intel cpu or vice versa. last time i did this i just deleted the cpu drivers and off i went but not this time. the 1090 won't even reinstall xp and the e6600 won't recognize the nic's even after a reinstall.:mad::mad:
 
did you do a complete install or a non-destructable windows repair? should of worked fine doing a non destructable windows repair. use to do it all the time with my rig. my windows xp boot drive went through 6 computers without ever formatting the drive.

when switching between amd and intel the only things you need to delete are the chipset drivers and anything related to the chipset drivers. especially if your switching between AMD, nvidia, and intel chipsets. everything else you can keep.
 
Yea i decided to reboot my SR-2 today to install some security updates and now i cant even get to the BIOS!

So much for 67 days of uptime :(
 
I powered off my Q9400 yesterday and it gave me like 10 beeps when powered back on. Cleared cmos same. pulled one stick of ram post. Added stick back in post. Overclocked again still post. Got me what the heck happened but it happened.

Its a complete install on the E6600, thats now back up and running sort of but still needs some work. I haven't done anything with the AMD rig yet - Just got in from work so i'm just about to give it another go. It's definately savable as it boots into safe mode fine. I was hoping not to have this many problems as both boards use nvidia chipsets and i had already uninstalled all the drivers.:confused:

Fkng all the sudden in the last 2 days started having crashes and errors on my SR-2 rig, time to sanitary erase the SSD and reinstall. AGAIN. :mad:
My contribution will be in the crapper for at least the next 24hrs. [sigh] Of course it dumped on a 2684 of all things that was almost finished. AARGH

Update.

the E6600 is up and running fine now:), the x6 on the other hand was a complete nightmare. Had to do a fresh windows install - which is still semi borked:mad:. Managed to get the SMP client and an 8800GT back up and running but the x6 is showing 3.9k PPD on a 6058:confused:. Frame times are all over the place but well over the 8minute mark. I've lost all my logs but i thought 6058 should be one of the quicker A3 projects.

I was going to fiddle with it today as its my day off but our water main out in the street blew during the night and the water company are currently digging up my drive:mad: and waiting for a bigger pump to keep on top of the water:eek:
 
Actually I got really lucky, the client crapped out trying to resume the 2684 and threw up a bunch of errors I've never seen before. I had to force close it, and then let the thing sit running scandisk while I was sleeping....woke up to the login screen, went in and started the cpu client and it resumed the 2684 where it left off after all. THANK GOD

Going to still have to do a reformat/clean install later and will be down for a few hours for that, but at least I won't lose the WU work that's been put in already.
