FireFall is more than deserving of an actual official thread, so I've decided to create one.

A truly F2P open world MMOFPS that is not pay to win, is stunningly gorgeous, incredibly creative, with seriously tight, fluid combat, with deep crafting and intuitive UIs/menus in every part of the game. The artistic and general aesthetic to FireFall is oustanding, from the visuals, to the music, to the seriously addictive gameplay, it's extremely immersive. It's bringing something seriously outstanding and fresh to the world of online gaming, IMO.

Those are my words, given that I've spent an immense amount of time in the beta and am still playing daily.

Discuss your experiences and opinions, and support the game, as it's truly a work of art, IMO, and has a seriously immense amount of potential.

Here's the official info:

An MMO Shooter At War

Firefall is a sci-fi MMO shooter set in a future Earth. A starship disaster unleashes a titanic energy storm called the Melding. It envelopes the earth, wipes out most of the planet, and spawns hostile creatures who self-proclaim themselves the Chosen.

Players must band together. Uniting in the form of armies, players will need to collect resources to craft weapons and vehicles to fight back the apocalyptic threat of the Chosen invasion. Special Nano-technology suits of armor called Battleframes enhance the human race in this future Earth and allow players to jumpjet across battlefields, wield a variety of exotic weapons of heavy destruction, and employ special abilities to reclaim the world.

Created by seasoned developers including the team-lead for vanilla WoW and the lead-designer of Tribes 1 and 2, Firefall’s combat is fast paced, furious, and plays like a top tier action oriented shooter. But Firefall is equally an MMO, plunging hundreds of players into an all-out Player vs. Environment war against the Chosen army. It is the largest co-op shooter made to date and offers a unique gameplay experience not found any where else.

A Dynamic Warfront

The Chosen are an intelligent and malevolent race. They invade by drop pods. They establish patrols, build outposts and lay siege to towns. They strike anywhere and at any time in small waves or huge incursions. These barrages of strategic attacks by the Chosen create a fully dynamic Massive Multiplayer Online open world warfront.

Players have the choice to watch the world fall by the wayside or fight back against the Chosen. Defend key points on the warfront to defy the Melding's consumption of the world. Advance into the heart of Chosen territory to reclaim areas once belonging to the Accord.

Working together in cross-server events, players will uncover new parts of the world with each campaign to recoup the world and drive back the Melding storm.

A Vast Open World

Our world will be the largest co-op MMO shooter world ever created. Developed on a 1/10th scale replica of Earth, the game starts in Fortaleza, Brazil at the site of the starship Arclight's crash. While the rest of the world is covered by Melding, this ten square mile of territory is the only area that has been left untouched and thus playable at launch. Firefall is an episodic game, so to reveal new playable territory, players must push back the Melding.

100% Free-2-Play

Firefall is an AAA game that is completely free to play. You can play and access all the core features of the game absolutely free when the game launches. What is more, Firefall is Free-2-Play and never Pay-2-Win. We offer convenience, time savers, utility and cosmetics in our item store but we will not sell or rent weapons, or anything that affects the balance of the game.

Massive Co-Op Play

Co-op shooters often feature 4 or 8 player co-op. This is not the case with an MMO shooter like Firefall. Each instance-shard of the world holds hundreds of players at a time. Create an army with your friends and work together to gather resources, to craft weapons, and to fight the war against the Chosen invaders.

JetPacks!

Keep an eye on the skies when fighting in Firefall! Firefall's open world and PvP maps are extremely vertical, with high perches, vast mountains and deep valleys to take full advantage of the jumpjets installed on every Battleframe. Engaging in combat in Firefall is a whole new experience in depth and dimension. It is vertical gameplay redefined for a vast open world.

Tiers, Not Levels

There is no leveling in Firefall. The game features horizontal progression in tiers. Each tier is filled with a tech tree of Battleframe customization choices and perks that are unlocked via allocating XP. Players can maintain extensive garages full of Battleframes, tailored to specific PvE missions and ranks of PvP play. Progressive Tiers are more powerful in PvE, but not necessarily in PvP.

Battleframe Customization

Instead of classes, Firefall features roles defined by which Battleframe players equip. Battleframes are arranged in five major roles:

Assault, Engineer, Biotech, Recon and Dreadnaught. Specialized versions mean there are dozens of choices with more to come! Each character can collect and customize their Battleframe, much like collecting and modifying cars in a racing game.

Missions & Dynamic Events

Firefall features dynamic missions that are not fixed in any one place in the world. Instead, missions vary in enemies and rewards depending on where and when they happen. Players are guided by a "game director" system called Aero, who relays missions to the player depending on what is happening in the world and to the player's preferences. There are few static quests in Firefall, instead, each new day brings a new set of dynamic world challenges.

Warpaint Customization

Using the Warpaint System, players can customize Battleframes and avatars. An advanced system allows players to paint their Battleframe in unique color schemes, apply patterns, apply tattoos, and apply decals in a nearly infinite variety of combinations.

Deep Crafting

The majority of items in Firefall are created with resources, known as Crystite Hybrids. These resources are generated dynamically in the world and players must survey for optimal mining points. Once found, special rocket propelled mining drills called Thumpers are used to collect the resources. There are millions of possible combinations that create unique properties in player crafted items.

E-Sports PvP

Fighting in Firefall is fun and completely skill based. Movement is fast and vertical thanks to the jump jet feature on every Battleframe. There are no dice rolls or RPG elements to get in the way of your personal capabilities as a player. A natural extension of our combat system was to create an array of e-Sports PvP maps, where teams can compete on ladders and in our planned 2013 tournament schedule complete with a 1 million dollar prize pool.

Spectating And Shoutcasting

Firefall features the best replay and spectating system of any shooter. In addition to our spectator mode, shoutcasters and streamers will be delighted with our set of custom tools designed to make broadcasting matches easy and exciting. We've even created a Mobile Gaming Station, the MGU-01, which houses an entire data and streaming station, on a tricked out bus built by West Coast Customs. MGU-01 will travel the United States, hosting LAN parties of up to 3000 players.

Dynamic World War

Firefall's open world is a simulation. Instead of a static world, the Chosen will invade the world systematically and the war effort will be propelled by a deep, player driven meta game. The Chosen themselves will be controlled by an A.I. "General" who plans attacks on important strategic areas in an effort to eliminate all players.

Massive Open World PvP

(Upcoming Feature, Q2 2013) Our custom servers and graphic engines are designed to allow for combat between a thousand players at once. Firefall will feature additional races and new territories designed to host massive player vs. player battles in the open world.

Story Driven Campaign

(Upcoming Feature, Q1 2013) Firefall is planned to be an episodic, story driven game. In Episode One, "Whispers in the Fog," the crash of the Arclight starship, commanded by Admiral Nostromo, unleashes an energy storm called the Melding which blankets the Earth and wipes out most of humanity. Out of this energy storm spawn the mysterious and hostile race known only as The Chosen. Nostromo must gather the players in an all-out effort to survive and take the war to the Chosen and discover their true nature.

I'm curious... it sounds interesting, BUT, an AAA title that's F2P sounds too good to be true so I'll hold until it's actually released before I get excited.

Played the closed beta. Gave it a try. Trailers looked awesome but I just couldnt get into it due to really poor and shoddy animations they have. It felt like a half-broken game. Just my impressions from the few hours I played.

I played the closed beta and didn't like it. Mostly because the PvP matches were terrible. I don't want to play an MMO and grind a character up just so I can play a sub-par 10v10 match where skill didn't seem to matter much at all compared to how leveled your character was.

I will give it another try when they bring Open World PvP, until then PlanetSide 2 will satisfy my MMOFPS needs.

Exactly. I've been in the beta for a week or so and this is the worst part. The PvP has so much potential, too. If they seperate the competitive side of the game with the RPG elements (crafting, upgrading, tiers, etc) then they'll be onto something.
