Looks like they're doing pretty well with chugging out a new set of CATs every month, like they promised...

Installed 4.2, ran rthdribl, used to sit around 36-38fps today it was 38-40fps. I guess thats the 2-3% they claimed.

Runnin em now....no change in 3dmark01 or 03. scores were exactly identical so i guess that means they are ok.

Im gonna stick with the 3.10's for my 9800 for now.. Just gonna wait and see some of the results from others.

That's confusing (thanks ATI). At first, I thought you meant that you were still on version 3.1 of the CATs , then I realized that we are not dealing with decimals...we are dealing with version numbers! Heh

Anyone got any before and after Unreal2k3 and Aquamark3 numbers yet? I wanna know if it's worth going up from my 3.9 install.......'cus they've been the best to me so far.

well ATI today has lost my buisness forever, every since after the 3.7 drivers came out, Madden 2004 and UT1 and Worms world party all have issues, Madden 2004 wont render AA, UT1 has a gama issue where once you open teh game its really dark, if you reset the gama in the game its find but once you close and open it again its dark yet again, Worms 6 out of 10 times wont display any video, and also COD is still locking up on me now and again.

3.8/3.9/3.10/4.1/4.2 drivers all blew IMO, thats 5 sets in 5 months that didn't offer any real benifit to upgrading, ever set was faster but every set had a new bug introduced.

For all I am concerned ATI can get a spoon and eat my arse.

my 9700pro is now on ebay, and my Geforce FX card is on the way.

Are you looking for a shoulder to cry on or something? Count me out on that one.

Playing UT1 right now on the 4.1's (I'll try the 4.2's in a bit) on a 9700pro with no issues. Are others having this issue and I'm just the lucky one?

Dunno, I've NEVER had any troubles with Worms or UT1 and I absolutely HATE madden so.............

I hate when one random person has an issue with a game and makes it sound like EVERYONE else is too just to prove a point they can't make.

There are some people that shouldn't post on the forums at all..........or should at least think through what they're saying before they label themselves.

No menton of fixing a slowdown issue when playing RTCW ET in this release. They mentioned that would be fixed in the next release.

From the "Fixed in this driver"
http://www.ati.com/support/includes/titles/fixed.html

Performance losses noticed in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory with the previous CATALYST™ display driver have been resolved in this release of CATALYST™

And if this is really fixed, it'll be well worth it!

User defined colour setting are now retained when exiting a 3D game or application

I've been dealing with that for a loooooong time, not a huge deal, but it gets old. If it's fixed, yay!

Ahhh, the release notes link on the [H] main page didn't list that fix for some reason.

Madden 2004 works just fine for me with Cat 3.8's. It glitches out sometimes after I save a game, but as far as gameplay and graphics it works just fine.

They fixed it! hallelujah!! I just tested it on 3 games that always used to revert back to the windows default upon exit and now they stay with my "defined" settings... booyaaa!

and I like this one too, haven't tried it yet tho'

The game Half-Life is now displayed properly under Windows XP when the game resolution is set to either 320x240 or 400x300

I just tested a pny fx5900 against my ati 9800np the picture quality sucked compared to the ati FPS were about the same but the quality difference was amazing. he probably has a p2 450mhz and windows 95 and is complaining it aint working right lol

This release of CATALYST™ provides performance gains to the ATI DX8 product family. These products include the RADEON™ 9200, 9000, and 8500 series. Performance gains are noticed throughout the following software:

Framerates in Unreal Tournament 2003 are up by as much as 15%
A performance gain of between 5 and 10% is noticed in Aquamark3
A performance gain of between 2-3% is noticed in ShaderMark scores
Framerates in Halo are up 3 to 4%
A performance improvement of 2% is noticed in Tomb Raider

Notice, it says on the 8500/9000/9200.

May I recommend... an Xbox, perhaps? :p

Problem with COD on my 9500Pro was solved after turning on trile buffer in OpenGL compatibility tab

Thanks to wizzard for not creating another thread, and just making this a sticky.

As always, no probs installing, or playing games so far.

I second that.

OMG, I can't believe how slow I am today.....I didn't see that. That would explain why I didn't really gain or lose any ground. Some scores went up a bit and some went down a bit. the ones that did go down were to the small enough extent that it probly would have been higher by simply running the test again, since your cpu clock is never constant. I found it kinda funny that my 3dmark03 and aquamark3 scores went down at stock clocks (from Cat 3.9) but they went up when the card was overclocked. :)

Whatever, considering this is the first release that hasn't killed any of my numbers to any extent I think I'll leave 'em be until we have the 4.2 Omegas to play with.

I was wondering why Unreal2k3 was the EXACT same (within 1fps). ;)

hmm, mayb the 4.3 will give an increase to the 9700/9500 series? (well, this is boostin the 8500's, so u never kno...)

I've got a 8500. I'm downloading the drivers now and i will let you know the results (When they mean a 15% increase in UT2k3 preformance, I would imagine the preformance will go up in the UT2k4 demo)

UT2004 demo on a Radeon 8500 seems very smooth now. Its pretty well based on the same software as UT2003. If UT2003 got a 15 percent speed boost on the DX8 chips (8500, 9000 to 9200) then it is certainly showing up in UT2004.

Nice to see that ATi has not totally abandoned the "older" cards. It feels with the new drivers, that an 8500 is firmly at GF4TI4600 speed (whereas before it was hovering between a 4200 and 4600)

I can play with a 8500 & P4 3.2 at 1600x1200 noAA 8XAF with decent smoothness now. Of course the UT2004demo is supposed to be halved-quality textures of the final game, so there is no way I expect to play that res when it hits the shelf.

Yup, i'm noticing a increase in preformance. I would usually run at around 25 fps in onslaught mode and would sometimes spike to below 20. Now I generally run at 35 fps and the lowest i went was low 20s.
