I have a Samsung 2TB HD204UI, I think it is now called the Ecogreen F4. It is dying on me even though I only use it for storage, I am running my OS and programs on a small SSD.
I was offered the following replacements:
-Another Samsung 2TB (have to wait 2 weeks, which is not a problem for me).
-Seagate 2TB XT 7200rpm drive.
-Seagate 2TB 7200rpm, this is a 1TB per platter driver so I assume ST2000DM001. This one is getting bad reviews on the egg 3/5 stars.
I retain my original drive warranty in all cases. I may be able to get a different Seagate drive from the above, I'll have to specify which and ask for it.
I don't know much about any of the drives above, I do know that the XT is $200 on Newegg vs about $100 for the other Seagate. I have read recent Samsung F4 reviews on the egg and many have gotten the same failure that I have after a year + of use.
