Off the wall PC multiplayer games

I'm looking for some 3D multiplayer action games that DON'T use a first person perspective, and do not have a point and click interface.

In short, no shooters and no Diablo clone action RPGs.

For a half decent idea of what I am looking for, think Phantsy Star Online, although all the role playing dynamics are far from necessary. Just some of the basics of game play. 3rd person hack and slash stuff that isn't point and click. (What kind of hacking and slashing is clicking, anyway? :D)

You could say I am looking for a more console oriented game, but even in the console arena I can't think of many games that fit the bill, and if there were the services are crap, or I would have to pay MS monthly. Which is fine, but I do not play enough online multiplayer to merit continued payments. Wouldn't get my 10 bucks worth a month.

Thanks in advance.

There is a multiplayer mod for GTA Vice City I think, but I have not tried it and there are probably no servers runnig for it. Freelancer was cool but I doubt many ppl are playing that as well.

Oh there is Jedi Knight & JK2, the saber duels are in 3rd person. I played both for a while, very fun. Once again - there may not be anyone playing online these days.

Guild Wars

The Vice City multiplayer mod is called "multitheft auto"
Freelancers IS cool and is still quite active because of the mod community

The game you are looking for came out a few years ago. Rune!

Look it up, its extremely fun. I still hope for Rune 2.

Hell yeah, Rune is a great Lan party game, it had an expansion pack dedicated to multiplayer, too, Halls of Valhalla, I think...
There was also a fan made co-op mod that worked so well the company lists it with their official patches!

Rune, lol. I was just scrolling down to suggest either of the Freedom Force games but Rune. I wrote the original CTT mod (and shownames) for Rune in like 4 or 5 days way back when. I was just reading the forums a few weeks ago and saw that people are still playing it. Although I guess two other guys have polished it up some since then.

Rune was/is a great game ..had a blast playing it oh so many many moons ago ....

One Must Fall: Battlegrounds

It's like, an MMO third-person fighting game with support for 32 people at once. A friend of mine beta-tested it. It's pretty cool, but it didn't sell too well, due in part to a slanderous review in some magazine where they claimed there was no strafe, when in fact strafing was something pretty easy like ctrl-(left/right).

If you are looking for a party type game and have an XBOX you have to go out and buy fusion frenzy right now. It is an overhead isometric (think zelda for snes) with all characters on the screen at the same time (think bomberman). It is great if you have four controllers, there are so many different mini-games it really is a riot.

Eh, Fuzion Frenzy is OK, but many of the mini-games on there are fillers. Still, at it's $20 price tag I guess you can't lose nowadays.

They were supposed to be making a Fuzion Frenzy 2 with Xbox Live support, I wonder what ever happened to it...

It was a lot of fun in college, with three other buddies, drunk off your rockers trying to knock each others sumo balls off the shrinking platform.
