I have recently purchased a Dell system and recived an OEM version of Office Pro 2007 .

I do not wish to install this onto my new system. Can i install this onto a 2nd non-Dell system or is the software locked to Dell-only hardware (as it is OEM)?

Also, I have been looking at buying multiple systems for an office. They say the come with OEM software. If I recieve the systems with software like this is it legal to sell the unopened and unused software if it is unwanted?

Any clarity would be great!

Thanks

Legally, its licensed only for use on the computer it was bundled with if you read the OEM license. Technically, it will generally install on whatever PC you like. So it all depends on how you feel about the legalities.

I have seen many OEM products on Ebay. Would this be breaking the licence agreement and if so, why do ebay permit this?

theres always the workaround for those licenses.....its usually 1 for the desktop and laptop....

but then again i'm all for ignoring the bs and look for ways to beat the system lol

Ebay doesn't permit this. I tried selling 2 unopened copies of Office 2003 Professional OEM that came with older Dell machines I had at work. The auction was pulled, and Ebay sent me an e-mail explaining that it violated OEM software agreements. If I had sold a Dell computer and included them, it would have been fine.

I think it may have something to do with how the software is purchased.

For example, you purchased a dell comptuer and OEM software for that dell computer.

If you were to sell that dell computer, you could advertise that it came with said software and you would be fine. But you technically aren't allowed to separate the software from the hardware it was intended for.

You can buy OEM software on Ebay, you just have to adhere to the license. Usually you have to include a piece of hardware in the auction, but I imagine each license is a bit different.
