if i buy an oem hd and cd-rw drive, will i need to buy any cables or anything?
 
Yes. OEM is totally bare, literally just the drive. No cables, no CDs, nothing extra. That's why it is less expensive.
 
what exactly do i need to buy for

Both of those cables will work for the harddrive and the cd-drive. However, I would not buy an OEM sound card. You don't get a warranty or somethign like that. I would also recommend that you get two of the round IDE cables because they promote better airflow throughout the case. Goodluck.

...not exactly true, based on what I know. Usually OEM stuff has a 30 or 90 day warranty, where retail boxed hardware is usually one year. This varies a bunch from brand to brand so check with the vendor to be sure. IMHO - 30 or 90 day warranties are usually quite sufficient to make sure all the hardware works properly. I buy OEM stuff all the time; no regrets so far. OEM CDRW drives I've bought came with an audio cable and usually software of some type (LiteON's from the egg) but no IDE cables. OEM serial ATA or IDE drives usually come in a bag, bare, with no goodies.

You're right, they do come with a shorter warranty. They are usually bare, as in just the drive and stuff, sometimes you'll get a cable and a cd. I once ordered a processor OEM and I didn't realize that if it was OEM it didn't come with a heatsink. My comp sat for a week while I waited for a heatsink to arrive. It was torture. However, I always order my cd drives and harddrives OEM, haven't had any problems yet, and OEM is usually a few dollars cheaper.
 
my friend recently baught an athlon xp 2800+ oem processor from comp ussr (comp usa) and his will not show what type of processor it is, even if you edit it in the registry or in administrative tools. it still says "Unknowen Processor" ~1.8ghz any ideas?
