Ok guys, I seem to have a serious problem.

I "inherited" a network with severe problems from its former owner. The most perplexing issue at the moment is the fact that machine can't access the internet. I had this issue Friday and left a machine hooked to the network over the weekend and today everything seems to work??? Extremely odd, yes I know...

We have a Cisco PIX 560 firewall and a SBS2k3 server doing DNS and DHCP... I am about at my wits end with this weird problem. If anyone has any insight please share...

Do your Ipconfig /all 's look ok when they can not connect?? Right gateway, DNS ETC.. next step mighe be getting the sniffer out.
 
Yes, everything seems to match up, everything is being pulled down from the server as it is specified. The machines that work even match up with the ones that dont. The really odd part is that it almost like it is taking a day or so to validate the machine into the network?? Not the proper terminology, but the best I can come up with at the moment...
 
How many workstations or other devices are using outbound internet connections?

How many internet connections are licensed on the Cisco?
 
what is your edge network device. If it is a cisco device you may want to enable portfast on all the interfaces that have hosts. I have seen a server boot before a switch port without portfast is enabled and it thinks that the network is disabled and things are flacky.
 
hey guys, thanks for all the great tips!!!

I just had to reset the router several times and end up leaving it off for about 15 minutes and rebooting... I bought a timer from wal-mart to put on it to turn it off for a few hours late at night and hopefully this will fix the problem in the mean time.

I am about to buy a new firewall from draytek so hopefully this wont last long!!
