Odd spike lag when Gaming

Hello there Hard Forum hoping you can once again help me figure out a particularly annoying issue. Recently I have been getting a spike of lag when gaming never more than a second or two and with no specific amount of time in between each one, at first I thought it was just network lag but then I noticed it happened in more than one game, it's frequency changing between games (In borderlands two it happened a lot but in say Bioshock infinite it occurred maybe twice in a 2 hour session. I ran diagnostics and benchmarks until I finally spotted an odd occurance at the moment of the spike my GPU Load, and memory drop to 0 and then shoot back up when the spike is done. I have a ECGA GTX 670 FTW edition as well as an Asus Sabertooth board and a amd FX8350 as well as a Corsair ax1200 powering the entire rig. Is it the graphics card or could it be more, I would hate to spend the money replacing the card only to find out its something else. If needed more details can be provided.

1. Check if the GPU's heatsink is clogged up internally causing overheating and throttling. Shine a flashlight in the fan intake and look for any obstruction in each funnel from the rear of the card. Easier if you take off the housing and the rear bracket.

2. Try setting Windows power profile to high performance.

3. Try going into BIOS and disable cool and quiet and C6 state.

I know its not clogged, and I keep my pc in high performance I will try and remember to check the bios settings.Anything else?

I should probably mention this isn't an issue that's been there it just started cropping up.

Note time of occurrence and check the Windows event logs for corresponding issues.

Nothing in event viewer when it happens and I have some games installed to my Solid State and my standard hard drive, the spike happens in both games. So far the only thing I have seen is the less intense the game is the less often it happens. Noted that when I went from playing Borderlands 2>GW2>Bioshock infinite. BL2 it happened a lot, GW2 it happened frequently but enough to make me think lag, and Bioshock infinite it happened so little I thought it went away.

Try each stick of memory separately and see if it happens. Assuming you have more than one.

I do, both passed a Memtest86+ 24 hour session, both individually and grouped. I might just see if I can still RMA the card, and then see if after its replaced it still happens.

Try running the games at lower resolutions to lessen strain on vid card and see if it happens. Maybe go as far as trying the onboard graphics while gaming.

I got approved for the RMA by EVGA, Going to try some gaming on Onboard graphics with some of my lighter games until I get the card replaced.

I used to have a problem like this when I had a GTX 8800 back in the day. Those were the generations of cards that over time melted from the heat and not the right material on the boards to withstand the heat. I plopped a GTX295 in there when I first started to get spikes, and no more problems. I'm betting your RMA will fix it.
