I don't use floppy disks much at all since they are pathetically outdated, but for a current C++ programming class I'm enrolled in at my university, I need them.

However, of the 18 or so lying around, they all need to be formatted and Windows never does it properly. I'm curious if you guys know of any reliable programs to format floppy disks. Please post a link to them here. I really don't want to waste money on more crappy disks.

tell me what's wrong with formating floppies under windows? you can do it from cmd if you want... or you can write your very own formatting app - my buddy wrote an app in assembler that formats a floppy for 2 megs capacity...

My floppy drive doesn't appear to be problematic at all. I've tested it with about 8 more disks I borrowed from someone with information on them and it reads them all fine and saves fine.

Ever since I installed Windows XP on my systems, Windows always gives me the format error.

What's the DOS command to format?
