Odd Question RE: Video Cards

I don't play games, but I do have a 30" Dell Monitor and a secondary monitor, and use Windows 7 and photoshop a lot.

I want the most "energy efficient" video card out there.

I currently have a Geforce 9500GT and am wondering if I can get something to conserve even more power :D

My motherboard is a X58A-UD3R :confused:
 
With the CUDA gpu acceleration, you would get better performace by staying with something that is supported with that.
 
Why is the wattage of low end cards that important to you? The difference is less than a lightbulb.
 
Out of curiosity, is Aero smooth with a 9500GT and 2560x1600?

I was not aware it was only 7w to 14w, I was hoping for more thus this thread ;)
If I could have went from like 50w to 10w that wuold have been great :D

It matters to me because I can run on my battery longer.

I said I can run on battery longer, not that I do it all the time ;)

Less power draw gives me more time to swap over things, and get my generator running w/out shutting down my system only to turn it on in a few minutes :D.

Not to mention it's cheaper overall to draw less power.. however, if that was my main focus I wouldn't have 30" or dual monitors....
 
I'm curious as to why you run off battery (a UPS or some other battery?). Why do you have a home generator running your computer?

Probably has weather related power outages during certain seasons. When I lived in my parents town, we used to lose power at least twice every winter for hours and hours. Not once here in the city though.;)
 
I have multiple UPS for my monitor, and main system as well as my networking equipment. It's so I can swap over to generator w/out shutting it all down and rebooting it all :)

Where I live we lose power many times during winter. This winter we went w/out power one time for over 50 hours, and at least 5 other times for 15 hours. Snow, vehicle wrecks into poles and being at the END of the grid mean we are most likely last to get power restored ;)

Since I don't game at all anymore, I thought it best to try to save power in this area :D
Also re-did my HD plan from multi-drives in raid0 to 1 SSD and 1 backup/storage. (Also a small NAS for real backup).

Win7 ran fine and all my scores were above 7 except the video card that scored like 4.2 :eek:

How can I "stress test" Aero is there certain things that cause it to utilize more video card power? Dragging an animated window? I have no idea, I`m a win7 n00b.

The 80gb Gen 2 intel SSD is amazing, everything is faster... even the internet.
