Ok guys I"ve got an interesting problem in a friend's pc. He's running an old 1.3ghz P4 Dell desktop that he's modified quite a bit to make it more usable. It had been running solid for about a year now and just recently crapped out. He said it froze all of a sudden one day and when he rebooted he said the video drivers were corrupted or something like that. So he removed em in safe mode and downloaded the new ones for his abit 4200 and now he never makes it into windows. The login never shows up. It just sits at a black screen after the wiindows xp splash. So here i come to the rescue, with the reformat. I'm rolling thru, installing drivers for the wireless lan so i can get the rest of the drivers off the net. Next came the new nvidia drivers off their site. BOOM same problem. In safe mode, everything is gravy and runs fine, but it refuses to run normally. I reformatted again and used the drivers off the abit cd which yielded the same problem. So do you guys think? Do I have software problems or does this abit 4200 have a problem with drivers and I need to send it back to them. Here's the rest of his system:
1.3 socket 423 P4
384 RDRAM
Abit GF4 ti4200
2x 80 gig western digital HDs
Turtle beach sound card
Dell mobo and case
