A couple days ago, i was on the internet when I noticed that the horizontal size of my monitor started shrinking, then "snapping" back. I shrugged it off, thinking it was due to either my speakers (Logitech Z-340) or my wireless mouse and keyboard receiver (Logitech MxDuo).

Then I got off thinking nothing of it, and my brother got on after me. All of a sudden the monitor shuts off and the LED light is blinking. I told him to shut the monitor off and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I turned it back on and the LED was still blinking, but the monitor was "clicking" every 2-3 seconds as if it were trying to turn on.

What I wanted to know is if this is a common problem with this monitor/brand? And if so, has ViewSonic done anything about it?

I usually run the monitor at 1152x864 at 85 Hz, and turn it off whenever no one is using it.
 
hmmmm... i have this exact same monitor and i have never experienced problems like that.
some things that you could try are to check the cord (like if you have the monitor cord streched out between the computer and the monitor)
also try hooking your computer up to a different crt. i dont think thats the problem but its worth a try...
 
Yea, I hooked up an older POS CyberVision 17 in monitor, and it seems like it was the monitor. The cords and everything were in perfect shape, so I'll have to RMA it :( .
 
try and move everyhting away for the monitor that would upset the magnetic balance of it...like ur speakers, mouse reciever and other cords that are touching the monitor cord from ur computer
 
Yea, I tried everything from moving the speakers/mouse receiver off the desk, to trying it on another computer, but alas, no dice. :(
