hey all, i recently noticed that my eyeisght is starting to get worse and worse and im thinking that it may have somethin to do with my lcd...well i upgraded to a viewsonic va2012wb 20.1" ws lcd at about the end of january...up until then, i was using a samsung syncmaster 753df and everything was fine
i was able to read the text nice and cleanly at about arms length a few weeks ago, but now i have to get a significant amount closer
could this have to do with any settings for my video card or lcd? as of now, im running 6500K for my color and im at 55/100 for both contrast and brightness
images seem pretty clear, its just that the text is starting to get smaller and smaller :(
thx for the help

One test: Use Windows's Display Properties > Settings > Advanced to adjust the DPI setting to LARGER fonts and use your PC like you usually do. See if you have less eyestrain (longer duration of monitor use without tiring your eyes). If larger fonts is more comfortable, then you should stay with the larger fonts setting (though some webpage's formatting may not work properly).

Another tip: Since you are using an LCD display now, try using Window's ClearType font aliasing feature to see that helps improve readability.

You may want to see an eye doctor to make sure nothing is medically wrong with your eyes (need to start wearing glasses/contacts, etc.). As people get older, their eyesight gets worse (can't focus like they used to, needs reading glasses, etc).

You still need to take breaks from staring at your PC display (just stop looking at nearsighted objects --> take a bathroom/coffee break, stretch your limbs, look out the window, etc)

Start finding more information by websearching "eyestrain"

[My eyes can't focus like they used to. I used to be able to read text using the "normal" Windows font settings with the typical (95-105 dpi) PC monitors. Now I use a Sceptre 37" 1080p (60dpi) which MAGNIFIES everything ~66% bigger than the Dell 2405 - now I can read normal-sized text like I used to. It's like the Westy 37" 1080p, but it also has 2 TV tuners. But I've learned to take breaks to rest my eyes.]

I use Photoshop often so a calibrated display and color accuracy are more important to me than using digital vibrance to artificially enhance the display image. Some people prefer TVs which appear "brighter' and more "vivid" because those TVs color temp were set at cool blue 9300K instead of the warm red 6500K that was more color accurate.

If you like the digital vibrance view better when using your PC then that's personal preference [Of course, digital vibrance sounds simpler and easier to use/understand than adjusting the gamma control].

well i think im going to use digital vibrance more for when i play Americas Army, it looks sooooooooooooooooooo much better :p
