Odd M1015 controller issue

I recently purchased 2 M1015 controllers for a server I'm building.

One the first controller, I have 5 3TB drives, and the second controller has 6 2TB drives.

The first controller sees 4 of the 3TB drives as their full capacity, however the 5th drive shows up as a straight 2TB (Not 1.8 TB like a formatted 2TB would show).

Any idea what could cause this? I was going to flash the firmware, but am having a hell of a time trying to figure THAT out...LOL
 
Firmware flash on those cards is actually pretty easy. Make yourself a DOS USB flash drive (I use FreeDOS USB image from here - put on the flash drive with Win32 Disk Imager from here).

Download the firmware from here and the flash utility from here. Unzip both and copy the megacli.exe and imr_fw.rom to the flash drive.

Boot from the flash drive and select 'Boot FreeDOS without drivers' from the boot menu. CD to the directory where you have the megacli utility and the new firmware and run the following:

MegaCli -adpfwflash -f imr_fw.rom -a0

That's all she wrote. Instructions provided without any guarantees of course, but that's the process I use on my 1015 cards to get the latest LSI firmware on them.

Update: Firmware updates went really smooth, thank you for the awesome instructions. Common sense told me to use -a1 for the second controller, which worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, this didn't resolve the problem with the drive not seeing the additional ~750GB. It's weird that the first 4 are all seen as the full 3TB, but the 5th drive on the same controller isn't being seen that way.
 
Looks like I lied. I had to go in and delete the drive, and then it found it again as the full 3TB.

Glad you got it straightened out. Haven't run into that particular issue before, but the drives I use are generally smaller. Have to keep it in mind when I upgrade down the road.
