I have an IBM thinkpad i5000 series 2621-560. It has the ability to play CDs while the laptop is off, through a stand alone CD player on the front that runs through the soundcard.
My problem is the sound for the cd player works just fine, as do the BIOS beeps, but when I try to use sound in any OS (windows, mandrake, fedora) all I hear is faint static that resembles the sound that should be playing. This problem just suddenly occured, the sound worked, I shut it off, sound didn't work anymore. Quite strange, I have tried working with the mixers and external volume to no avail.
Any suggestions?
