Odd high frequency noise

My computer emits a very high frequency and very irritating noise. It's hard to explain, sort of, um, 'digital' sounding. Like constantly going on/off.

It's only become obvious since quietened all the fans in my case. I've tried unplugging the hard drives and stopping the fans (PSU, vga, cpu, the lot), it isn't them. So what is it? Is this just the noise of high speed electronics?

The only other thing I could think of is the PSU. It's a nexus silent jobby. AC electronics can make funny noises, right?

Odds are the psu....they can make a sort of high-pitching, faint "ringing" at times.

Weird - I was playing about with super pi and just noticed the noise stops when I do a run. In fact, with a little more experimentation, it seems to stop when I do anything cpu intensive.

Which is odd. What can it logically be? The sound of an athlon IDLE'ing?

I have a 2.5" Seagate drive in my current PC (from my Apple mini). I think it makes a slight "chirping" for some reason. I hear it when I'm moving the mouse around, or while using some applications. Its not the disc accessing or something because I can hear that as well and know what that sounds like. Its a real faint beep...I guess it sounds "digital" too

Mine is there without the hard drive. It *completely* dissapears if the cpu is under heavy load (eg doing a super pi run, playing sa fame, prime95, etc).

Any ideas what this bloody noise is ?
