I have a user who's working on a spreadsheet with quite a few formulas on it. She's getting these strange arrows showing up on random cells, and I can't for the life of me, figure out how to remove them. She wasn't sure what she did to make them appear, but she thinks it might have been while setting up a print area. I've fiddled with this setting, and can't seem to get them to disappear. You can't click on them, so they aren't clipart, or something like that. Any suggestions as to what they are?

Is the yellow highlighting part of the spreadsheet or does that come with the arrows? Also, are the cells they show up next to correctly formatted for the data inside of them?

The highliting is part of the document, and is supposed to be there. I can try to get a larger screenshot if she isn't busy. There's a lot of sensitive info on there, that I didn't want spread across the interweb. As for the cells, they are numerical (next to it) and formatted as numbers. I've tried changing the cell formatting to general, text, etc with no luck.

One more thing:

Tools/Formula Auditing/Remove All Arrows.

Besides that, I'm out of ideas. I can honestly say I've never seen this issue before. If I had a copy of the worksheet I might be able to come up with something, but due to its sensitive nature, I know that isn't possible. Good luck.

The auditing section basically told me that I had no tracer arrows. As for deleting the contents, the arrows remain. I've tried even changing the background fill, with no results.

Can you double click or right click the arrows? Does anything happen if you hover of them with the mouse?

Nope, nothing happens when you click on them. I can't select them either, as if they were a graphic. Nothing happens when I hover over them. The cursor remains the normal arrow as well.

Have you tried copying the worksheet into a brand new excel spreadsheet? If you can just recreate the worksheet go with that. I'm sure you've tried this though.

Copying to a new spreadsheet actually worked, in terms of removing the arrows. However, I may have done it wrong, because none of the formulas carried over.

Try to use the format painter to copy the formatting from a bare cell to one of those with an arrow.

I'm creating an invoice for someone, and there is an item description column within the form. I would like him to be able to enter a longer description, but only have the height of the cell expand if it exceeds the width of the cell.

He is not very Excel-literate, so having him perform maintenance after entering the text is not an option.

I've searched around quite a bit, but haven't found a solution. Anyone? VB code?
