Odd Dual Screen Image

I've been using dual screens for awhile, and this black box is always on the second (extended) display in the upper middle of the screen: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/2422/boxwx.jpg

It isn't selectable, nor does it come through when windows are run over it. It just looks like a black box on the background wallpaper of the extended screen. It's not there when screens are duplicated, but it is on the other monitor when I switch the extended screen to my primary monitor (making it the extended screen). I'm using HP ZR24w and HD 5850. It's been there through all the recent cat drivers.

Any idea how to make it go away?
 
it could be from some piece of software you have installed where its suppose to be a drop down/selectable window at the top of the screen, thats the only thing i can think of. i've never seen that before.
 
The odd thing is it's not selectable at all, it's just an image imposed over the wallpaper from what I can tell.
 
even changing the background image doesn't fix it? are you using windows to control display settings or CCC? if you are using windows to control it, just for shits and giggles try changing the location of the extended display either above the primary display or at some odd angle and see if it shows up there as well.
 
try using windows to configure the displays and see if it shows up again. i still can't think of what could cause it other then some 3rd party software.
 
That looks software, Check your processes and see if there is a weird one open.
 
If you download Process Explorer, you can use the bulls eye in the toolbar and drag and drop it over any open window and it will highlight the process. May not work if it isn't selectable but this is a very useful tool for many things and it's very small. You can run it from Microsoft's website if you want to.

That did it! The bulls eye said it was AI Suite II, the Asus MB software. Exit the program and it disappeared. No why does that have a box on a screen? Restarting AI Suite and it's not there. So, it's an easy fix.

lol of course it would be asus suite, such a piece of junk software. i hate having to use asus probe II on my board but there is no other 3rd party software that can read the bios correctly on my board.

Happy that you figured it out. Process Explorer can do a lot for such a small program. You can pretty much tell what every process is doing in the background... CPU, GPU TCP/IP addresses disk usage... basically everything. I use it for trouble shooting sometimes.

Asus is known for their hardware, probably not so much for their software skilz.
