specs are in my sig, running vista ultimate 64.. i'm using fraps to look at my framerates in crysis. generally, i'm averaging 35fps with some tweaked very high config files @ 1900 x 1200. i run the game in DX9 mode. anyway, one level, Onslaught which is all outdoors, fraps reports an average of 35fps and it feels smooth, no complaints, it is enjoyable. in the next level, awakening, fraps also reports about 35, but it'll dip down to the 20s when i get to the village area where there are indoor and outdoor areas. whats weird though is that even when fraps is reporting high 20s or low 30s in the awakening level, it feels super choppy compared to the 35 it reports in the previous level.

its weird because it doesn't feel like just low framerates, its more like lag. i'll move my mouse and hit some keys to move and it doesn't respond quick enough, then all of sudden it feels like it speeds up and catches up with what i'm doing. is it really just that crysis is awful with indoor environments? I previously had an 8800gtx and i don't recall it being this laggy on some of these levels....it seems like all the outdoor environments are smooth, but indoors are bad. or is it something with my card? anyone else get this issue?

Crysis DX9 multi-GPU is bugged in Vista. I have had this exact same problem running two ATI 3870 cards and now with my 3870 X2 in DX9 mode.

If you have all the latest hotfixes and patches, DX10 mode actually works pretty well, so I'd recommend that.

i've tried dx10 and it literally drops my framerates almost in half...i can't figure it out...running the crysis benchmark in DX9 mode gives me an average of 35fps....dx10 mode gives me about 20. running the 174.74 drivers and crysis 1.2

Do you have SP1 installed?

yup, sp1 is installed. i'm gonna try a fresh install of crysis, wipe everything out, config files, all that and see what happens

because DX10 is more intense then DX9 because of the new features it adds for visual quality is why performance drops, that is normal for anyone.

so i did some benchmarking with the 9800gx2 and the 8800gtx with several games including crysis.

crysis, certainly runs better on the 9800gx2 in most instances. the interior areas that were bogging down the 9800gx2 seemed fine on the 8800gtx. framerates seemed as low on the 8800gtx, but it didn't have that stuttering lag issue, it just felt like lower framerates.

some numbers for those interested..specs are in my sig

9800gx2 w/ crysis:
DX9 mode, 1900x1200, tweaked config files to run very high: 41 frames per second

DX10 mode, 1900x1200, very high: 23 frames per second

8800gtx w/ crysis
DX9 mode, 1900x1200, tweaked config files to run very high: 16 frames per second

DX10 mode, 1900x1200, very high : 14 frames per second

so the 9800gx2 works quite well. it is great in the expansive outdoor areas, but bogs down more than the 8800gtx during indoor environments...quite odd

I have the exact same issue. It is really bad in multiplayer.

My 8800 GTX shows lower frame rates with Fraps in Crysis but is very smooth and very playable.

The 98800 GX2 is always very choppy especially in doors. Fraps shows much better frame rates with the 9800 GX2 but it is so laggy that it is complelty un playable.

I hope this is a driver issue that can be fixed within 2 weeks otherwise I will need to return the 9800 Gx2 and go back to my 8800 GTX.

All my other games run great with the 9800 GX2 such as COD4, HL2, Counter Strike Source, BF2142, FSX, NASCAR 2003, C&C Tiberiunn ect....

do you get any weird choking or stuttering in any games with the 9800??

COD4 seems fine, but team fortress 2 for me runs super smooth, but is plagued by choking and stuttering. it isn't all that often, but when it does happen it chokes up for a second. it seems to happen very often as well right after i'm killed and the camera zooms to see the player who killed me.

crysis, like you, is super laggy and stuttery indoors, almost unplayable. outdoors are super smooth and enjoyable
