Odd 3DMark06 numbers

Greetings all,

I recently put together a E6600 based system on the 680i platform, in comparing my 3Dmark06 CPU numbers to a friends numbers I’m seeing some odd discrepancies…

Data:
Friends system/benchies:
E6600
Intel P965
2GB Corsair TwinX Xtreme
7900GS 256
---
3DMark06 Scores
Shader 2.0 1934
HDR 1895
CPU 2085
Total Score 4896

My system/benchies:
E6600
eVGA 680i
2 GB OCZ 677
8800 GTS
---
3DMark06 Scores
Shader 2.0 3615
HDR 3661
CPU 1583
Total Score 7613

Both systems are running at stock and the full standard 3Dmark06 test was used on both; at this point I’m at a bit of a loss as to the reasoning behind the massive difference in CPU scores… Could this be a factor in the chipset differences or are there any other ideas out there?

The system seem to be running cool enough, (on stock cooling,) it’s idling around the mid 30’s under load it doesn’t get much above the mid 40’s.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks,

That does seem alittle low on the CPU score.

Have you made any changes in the BIOS?
If you have an older BIOS version the 680i would set your multiplier wrong on the e6600, I think if I remember correctly it set it to 7 when it should be at 9. At x7 multi your cpu would be running at only 1862 mhz instead of the 2394 mhz it should be. That might be the cause of the lower CPU score.

Check your multi in the BIOS and see if maybe thats your problem.

Good luck.

In the bios, make sure you disable all the Spread Spectrum's and turn off the Thermal Throttling. (Bios -> Advanced Chipset -> CPU Configuration).

Well Don't I feel like a yutz.... that was exactily the case for some reason the multiplyer was set to 7 instead of 9, fixed that and now everything is running peachy....Odd thing is though i've got the latest BIOS revision from eVGA so I'm not exactily sure why it registered it at 7 multiplyer... aah well its happy now.

thanks for the advice all,

Meh, no big deal. I am running P23 BIOS now and it detects and sets multi properly. Some people I've heard still have the incorrect multi in new BIOS.

Don't beat urself up over it. Lots of people missed that for awhile.

Glad it fixed your problem. Now have fun with your new rig. :p
