OCZ600ADJ EU (600W) - Computer Shutdown?

Hi guys,

I purchased the OCZ600ADJ EU - 600W PSU back in March and have been using it ever since and it has been great.

After my last rebuild however, when I start playing F.E.A.R. or any 3D intensive game, the system will shut down approx 5 minutes into the game. It will just turn off, not even a reboot or BSOD, which leads me to think it is a hardware problem rather than software.

My exact system config is as below:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2x 1GB Patriot DDR
DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR
2x Gigabyte 7800GTX SLI (PCIe)
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty (PCI)
Belkin Pre-N Wireless Network Card (PCI)
4x Hitachi 500GB SATA2 (nF4 controller)
2x Maxtor 250GB SATA (SiL 3114 controller)
2x WD Raptor 74GB SATA (SiL 3114 controller)
Plextor 716A DVD-RW (nF4 controller)
LiteOn DVD-RW (nF4 controller)
LiteOn DVD-ROM (nF4 controller)
Plextor CD-RW (nF4 controller)

I have a small feeling that the hardware devices are overloading the PSU, and when the 7800's kick into full throttle in 3D mode it puts even more strain on the PSU causing the system to shutdown. In 2D mode in Windows the system is perfectly stable.

Could anyone enlighten me to any reasons why my system would be shutting down when running 3D intensive apps? If the PSU is overloaded, would it be possible for me to rig up another PSU to power the HDDs but connect it to the same power switch so everything came on at the same time?

If the system load isn't causing it, does anyone know what might be?

Many thanks for any replies :)

Lee

Try disconnecting a few drives & see if the problem remains.

If the problem goes away, then it looks like the PSU is overloaded.

Good Luck,
Dave ;)

holy crap i just want to see a pic of the inside of your rig

and you maybe overloading it

you should have gone with PC power and cooling SLI 510, or their 850 turbo cool psu's

military grade spec, they are tested at 50c to find their max rating, most other companies use ambient temp of 23ish

Well I tried hooking my HDDs up to another PSU and it now works fine, so it looks like I need a new PSU! :(

Any 1000W PSUs about? :)
