Yup, just got my gig of Value VX from the Egg for $106 duckies and man is it worth it. Off the bat with stock voltage 2,2,2,5 timings. Upped the voltage to 3.3 with my ddr booster and stable at 240 fsb 2,2,2,5! Not bad for some cheap ram.

Question though, I'm using A64 tweaker .6beta. How does one get it to actually load settings at startup? Also when it saves settings, they are not saved correctly and I have to use Notepad to fix the faults. For example some of the memory timings are not saved correctly.

Thanks for the help...

Yea the Value VX is pretty good stuff. It uses UTT-BH chips now where it used to use UTT-CH. You'll need to burn them in good to really see their full potential.

How? How?

Would love to get even more out of this ram...

You could just set it to loop on Memtest #5 at one voltage and speed step above stable. Like, for instance, 3.4v and 255MHz. Get it to where its geting 4-12 errors a pass in Test 5. Eventually the errors will go away if you're cooling them with a fan.

Thanks for the info robberbaron.

Yes, I have active cooling on them. What about my A64 tweaker problems? Any info on how to get it to save my settings and load at startup correctly?

If my 3700+ and 6800GT weren't on their way to San Diego, I'd be able to play with my AMD rig but... yeah. Once my new stuff gets here I can help you. I'll refer Eclipse to you. He's almost as good at this whole A64 thing as I am ;)

I would burn BH-5 RAM in at 3.2V. You can just loop test #5 or #8 in Memtest but i would also loop all the default tests. You'll need to do this for like 8-12 hours at a time and several times to get them burned in good. I've seen it recommened to start at 200Mhz 2-2-2-5 and burn them in at 2.9V and then step it up to like 210Mhz or 220Mhz and 3V or 3.1V and just work your way up. I'm no expert on it though. I've been trying to burn in my new G.Skill GH UTT-BH.

i've never tried it myself, but afaik, the startup thing with a64tweaker never really worked right :(

I wouldn't think it would. Look at the settings it reports when you first start it without running clockgen or CPU-Z!

Man, that is a bummer. I hate having to manually load settings each time so I can use the 183 divider, but oh well, till something better comes along...

you might be able to work something out in the bios by fiddling with the multiplier and divider.

so your cpu tops out at 2.6ghz and the ram is good for 240mhz, and the highest multi you can use is 10x?

i would do 289mhz with a 9x cpu multi and 166mhz divider, that'll put you at 2601mhz and 236.45mhz

Mobo wont go past 280fsb. MSI K8T NEO2.

I am seriously considering a new mobo, one with more overclocking potential...

Get the DFI Ultra-D and never look back

I've heard good and bad about this board, aka hard to get stable and can be finnicky.

Guess I could sell my ddr booster if I get this board?

they're only have a reputation for being difficult because of noobs who mess with the secondary timings on a whim and don't really get anywhere :D ;) :p

Yeah, mostly it's people that have never OC'd a computer before that have problems, then blame the board because it's not like Asus's Ai like thing that auto overclocks it for you...

The DFI boards can be a bit difficult at times if your not used to all the settings because a single setting can really make everything unstable and certain things like multipliers and dividers only seem to work about half the time. Usually a new BIOS fixes alot of the problems you may experience but the problem is everyones results vary so you end up having to try half a dozen BIOS versions to find the one that works best for you. In the end its the best overclocking board available and i wouldn't want any of the other NF4 boards out there.

and just as i wrote that i found out newegg sent me the wrong order! 6600gt instead of 6800gt...

If I were you, I wouldn't sell your DDR booster. The DFI NF4's voltage regulators fluctuate like you wouldn't believe when set to the 5v line. I think it's mostly the cause of a mosfet that gets really really hot. I've seen a thermal imaging pic of a DFI nf4 with the 5v line set, and that one mosfet is the hottest thing in the case. If one is using UTT with high volts, like you, then a ddr booster is still the best option. the 5v line can end up killing your RAM. As long as you use the booster, you should be fine.

Plenty of stores sell these sticks..To add to the ones above, there's SVC (they also sell it in 1x512 form) and ExcaliberPC. There's bound to be plenty of other *reputable* dealers selling them, I just found these witha quick google search on the model #.

Side note(s)..1) Got a set from NewEgg in the last month or two..Ordered early Thu. morning ( i think), and with standard ground shipping (from NJ), it still got to me (SoCal) within 24 hours (well maybe more like 28-30 but who's counting) :).
2) Got mine running @ 225/2-2-2-5 - can hit 235, but it pretty much pukes a BSOD right away, and @ 230 it's still not Prime/Memtest+ #5 stable. I'm sure this isn't my max for the sticks, but of course these are voltage happy sticks, and my NF7-S only puts out 2.9 (3.04 actual)
3) I'm almost certain I have the CH5 version, seeing as I did get them a little while ago, and my board seems to like these much better than my old BH-5 based XMS3500 (single stick) - @ the current speed/timings I wasn't Prime stable, also had to be run @ 2.5-3-3-7 to do so..

Either way, I'm happy. I got 2x512 sticks for $30 less than I paid for my XMS way back when, I'm able to clock higher, and my MMO lag problems were all but eliminated (ie: Lag Forge in WoW). Now, I just have to volt mod this board, and/or get my butt onto the A64 train.

hmmm, I just bought a gig of this stuff last week. My results weren't too impressive, was only stable at 2-3-3-7 timmings at 220mhz. Will run windows and games stably but mem test gives me like 1800 errors (so maybe not that stable...). Is there any way to determine what chips they are running?

Are you sure you got the VX series? OCZ sells another value series ram labeled almost identical to the VX.

Try running 2-2-2-5 at 200Mhz with 2.8V or less. If you can then most likely its UTT-BH. If you can't then most likely its UTT-CH. You probably just need to use more voltage and adjust your settings on your DFI board. DFI boards take alot of tweaking and just leaving everything set to AUTO isn't going to cut it. The tREF, Drive Strength, and Data Drive Strength values are three big settings that can make your system completely unstable and cause thousands of errors in memtest.

yeah, but I have no idea what those values mean or how to set them correctly :p. I've got them plugged into my shuttle that isn't overclocked so I don't worry about it too much. My Twinmos sticks are coming in on monday though, hopefully they will be the right chips.

WOOHOO!!!

I found out that A64 Tweaker .31 works properly for me. All settings are saved and loaded at Windows startup correctly.

Now it's time to do some serious tweaking... :D

I just received the ram linked above. To my chagrin, the labels on the sticks say 2.5-4-4-8, not 2.5-3-3-7 like in newegg's pics or description. The model #s match up though.

What do yours say Plywood?

Yes the labels on mine and CPUZ say 2.5-4-4-8. That is what they are guarenteed to run at. But they will run at much tighter timings. This ram is not tested by OCZ, that is why they sell it as Value VX instead of Gold or some other series.

Ok, so this memory doesn't work at all in my NF7-S. Gives me about 18000 errors in test 5 of Memtest86+ 1.6.0. This is at stock speeds, tried more voltage didn't help. Tried them in my SB61G2, at stock and overclocked, worked great.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. Did some reading up on NF2 motherboards and double-sided memory and found that some motherboards won't run them 1T CMD. Flashed a CPC-Off(2T) bios and errors are gone. Currently running at 210 2-2-2-6. Passed 7 passes of memtest with no errors, then tested her out with a 2 hour session of BF2 and am amazed at the difference between 512mb and 1024mb. Me = :D
