OCZ Refurb SSDs: Agility 3 512GB $228, Agility 4 512GB $240

wow. is this worth it? I dont want to spend the cash lol. I still need to buy a radiator

Their Agility line tends to be more reliable than their other lines.

*shrug* I have several Vertex 2 120GBs (all 34nm - some new, some refurb) that are working just fine. Granted, I got in pretty late in the game (when the FW was more mature), but still.
Same goes for the four 240GBs that are powering various laptops in the family.

More reliable trash is still trash. I wouldn't touch this, ocz refurb is just asking to get burned.

kinda true. Its that cheap for a reason. When an SSD breaks... how does it break? what happens?

I have a few cheap agility ssd drives, but I wouldn't pay that much for anything ocz. That's playing with fire.

The Agility 4 is a decent drive. About 20% slower than the top drives out now. In all honesty you probably wouldn't notice the difference in normal daily use.

Anyone buying these? I really like the amount of space these drives have.

I was thinking of grabbing one of these for my media player. It's one of those $75 things from newegg. When my son drops it on the floor this should keep the hard drive from breaking. It'll be read only....

Anyone used it in this scenario? With no writes, it should basically last forever, right?

Even with writes, these things will last 20+ years projected. You'll be fine.

Agility 4 now down to $210 for the 512GB.... that's really tempting.

Ugh, very tempting. I've had good experiences with OCZ's RMA process too. I've had to RMA a flash drive and Vertex SSD that snapped its SATA port off somehow and they replaced it with a new drive no questions asked. If the drive is good for 6 months, chances are that it'll last a normal SSD lifespan.

Wow, this is an amazing deal.. can't find the 512 on the site, might be sold out.. I just paid $180 for a 250GB 840 Evo, which is great.. but I would love a 512

Tell that to the person that sent it back for RMA in the first place.

Does it not concern anybody that there seems to be a rather HUGE inventory of these "refurb" OCZ units constantly available?

The vertex 3 code looks dead. Just grabbed a 250GB 840 or I'd be seriously considering this for an HTPC or laptop upgrade (aka non-critical data)

Anybody ever used Newegg's extended warranty plan? Seems like a good idea for just $25.

Ugh anyone know if these refurbs are a good deal ugh!

Agility 3 jumped up considerably in price, agility 4 fell since posting.

That 512GB agility 4 for $209 seems like an excellent deal if you get a decent one that has 40%+ health.

How can you check if an SSD has good health?

Look at the Media_Wearout_Indicator in the SMART. Although remember that SMART will only tell you about a drive wearing out (which for a large drive should not happen for a very very long time under normal desktop usage). There is no way to predict when the firmware will hit a bug or when the controller will fail.

Here is an example from by htpc of a 80GB Intel G1 drive

Code:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE

The Media_Wearout_Indicator here tells me I have 94% life left in the drive after 36512 power on hours.
