Whenever I set my memory to stock 2 2 2 5 settings and up the voltage to default 2.75/2.8, I fail Prime95 in under 3 minutes. However, I can run Memtest86 all night long no problems. When I drop the voltage down to 2.6, I seem to have no more errors in Prime95. Why can I not up the voltage to its default setting? I'm a n00b when it comes to memory and this is a brand new system, so I'm a little worried. I'm cooling my processor w/ a XP 120, AS5 and Panaflo 68 cfm 30db fan. The processor hasn't broken 40C load. There's the same fan in the front of my case, and a 92mm Panaflo 48 CFM rear exhaust fan. Case temp under load has been about 42C. There's also an exhaust out the top, but no fan.

it's possible that the ram doesn't like more voltage until it hits higher mhz

though.. from what i can tell, you're complaining about how your ram won't run stable with more voltage than it needs?

Well, it looks like I was mistaken - failing Prime95 now. So, passes Memtest86, fails Prime95. Did I get a bunk processor?

clear the bios by turning off the psu and taking out the battery

when you boot, go into the bios and "load optimized defaults", or the equivilent

save and reboot, see if it's still unstable

Already did that. I built my system last night, loaded windows, ran Memtest no problem, then ran Prime95. I was getting errors, so I turned off my system, changed some ram around, and turned it back on. But, it wouldn't post. I got a continous loop of short beeps (I still haven't been able to find out what error that is. There's no list of beep codes in the manual and Google isn't turning up anything). I so removed the battery and set the clear jumper all night. This morning, I put it all back together, booted up normally, and tried running Prime95 again. I seem to be able to run Prime95 longer w/ lowering my voltage below default (2.75), but I just got my first error a couple of minutes ago.

the key is loading defaults after clearing ;)

also.. maybe try 2.5v? hehehe
