OCZ phase change unit for $199!!

Yeah, not happening. Even in OCZ's own projections, it should start at $350, and drop to $299- not 199- after a large number of initial sales.

I'm also questioning a 3.5GHz A64 on only (-22C). I'm sure that speed is validated (and it seems to be), but I don't know how they did that on the OCZ kit.

This has been running around in rumor and in the shadows for a year now, I wish they would build them already.

Not going to happen...There is no way that it would only be $200, $400 I might have believed. All of the other available phase change units are close to $900. To even come to half that price would be amazing.

We can always dream cant we :(

If it would cost 200$ they couldn't make enough of them.
It would even change most of a WC crowd to PC cooling.

Guys... OCZ has a LONG history of total BS press releases purely for attention with no intentions of product release. We've been hearing about this particular one for like a year now...

Anybody remember that bigass case that was filled with mineral oil a few years ago? Was purely a thought and wasn't ever even tried once. Don't believe it until you guys see one at a reputable third party.

I dunno, I think the Cryo-Z is doable for some reason- I just think it'll be a lllloooonnnngggg time, if ever, before it gets to the $300 mark they're shooting for.

absolutely the tech is there... BUT for like $900... they want to make it $200... that's complete BS

Mis-quote, AFAIK. All the press I've read said $350 at launch, dropping to $300 after initial sales.

I would buy it for $350

all they have to do is make it similar price to high end water cooling and they will sell a ton of them

*yawn*

this was going to be happening last year. then it was supposed to release right after CES in january. now where the hell is it? oh wait, i stopped caring.

doesn't anyone wonder what corners they are going to cut in terms of reliability to get >$800 tech down to $350 much less $199? i'll pass no matter what price they sell it at.

That's easy: low-horsepower compressor, low-pressure gas, easy-to-manufacture evap head- the same reason Swiftech likes the Apogee over the Storm. Obviously it'll be a toy compared to an nVentiv or Asetek, but it'll still run circles around water. Don't expect 3.6GHz at -30C, but I'd say load temps in the single-digits will be common. That's operating under the presumption we can ever actually buy one. :(

And they're trying to sell them in LARGE quantities... Whereas other manufacturers are selling them in very small quantities.

ocz is a puppet-company con/scam job.

Yes I was approached by employees of ocz.

Yes I was offered free products to slant reviews and manipulate benchmarks.

too bad you cannot find their old shell-game websites www.forumoc.com and www.athlonoc.com

I guess in due time, everyone who was "bribed" by ocz will come forward;)

the scheme almost got enough notice to put OCZ down, but after I shared my experiences on said forums "shit started to hit the fan" and they turned those domains into spam-bots for cover.

and the "omfg a $199 price tag is just a classic bait-and-switch marketing ploy. A double entendre because

1. The price will be hiked riddiculously
2. The unit being tested is FAR superior to what you will receive.

Where did you work where that happened? Or are you just saying that's what they do?

1) The Inquirer.
2) OCZ.
3) You get what you pay for.

speak for yourself buddy.OCZ has been a very good company to me. they build quality parts, well, at least their top of the line stuff. never had a single piece of ocz crap out on me yet.

I used to read lots of bad things about OCZ quite a while ago, I thought they had cleaned up their act. Certainly any reviews of OCZ products I have read in the last couple of years have spoken very highly of those products. May have to go google some more recent reviews then

I wonder if Aqua Computer and OCZ are related. ;)

For $400 I would buy the unit right now. :D

I cannot comment on the specifics of OCZ's fraud, as this would be discussing a Criminal Act

I have used their products, had a AMD chip from them die on Day#1.
I had 2x512mb of infineon from them that never did me wrong.

Its ALWAYS the same scam. There is a group of people running this scheme, the SAME people.

I'd be willing to bet they have active contingencies for leaving the country.

trust me, when some one pops this cherry, they are looking at many years in prison.

I have been contacted to submit a statement for affidavit against OCZ... we will see how far that goes. They are unaware of any future litigation, these scumbags are very shady/slimy and if they knew what was happening, they would already be gone;)

there's still a few things that have a couple years left on the statute-of-limitations, which i am sure they think is "behind them" lmao!

Maybe you should edit your post then, so the OCZ Rep on the forums doesn't let those slimy dirtbags know what's coming for them. LOL

yeah there have been a few of those. doesn't seem to be something more than novelty. the comments on tom's hw are good to read if you can find the OP.

You can buy a used one for about 400$...thats a healthy chunk of change...even if OCZ bought it in a massive order...the most i think they could knock off is 200$ leaving 600$msrp and thats near impossible for that much to be taken off....bull i think

i cant find them in the UK, whens the launch? i dont know if you have them in america yet

Can you ever not mention AC in a thread:rolleyes:

Back to topic, if it's under 400 I'll give it a shot.

OCZ is a gamble, but who knows.

im glad they banned that guy for bashing OCZ.. Ive always bought OCZ ram, never regretted it. expecially these reapers. <3 them

I will buy this cooling unit defintaly if its $200 :D

Ancient rumor, simply not goind to happen, and I would personally not go for such a cheap phase changer. I would either go for a pricey one or not go for one at all.

Actually I think he was just a bastard all around.

Not one post did he have something nice to say. What a meanie :p

Hi guys, what's up with all of that?

We have only shown or discussed prototypes of the Cryo-Z and have never officially announced it as being ready for sale, nor have we announced a price. This doesn't mean that it will never come out, and we have definitely been working on production prototypes, but the product has to ready for production and until that time is a non-product.

OCZ NEVER. EVER stated that the price of this unit would be $199.00. We never stated this, we never projected it and the Inquirer was told that price was wrong and they never corrected the article!

Thanks for understanding.

That's why they're the Inquirer! I don't think everyone was expecting it, just hopeful. And like I said... don't worry about the one nay-sayer that preached doom about OCZ, every company has had their products that didn't work out well.

First OCZ product I bought was low-latency 1gb kit of DDR-400 ram. They were nice, but didn't overclock 2mhz. In retrospect though, at the time I didn't know about voltages to the ram... maybe that would have helped. *sigh*
