OCZ Octane VS OCZ Vertex4?

I currently have a Vertex3 with the Sandforce controller... even with all the bad things I've heard about, it has worked very well for me. I now plan on upgrading my other 3 hard drives to SSD. Here is the rub though, today, 1saleaday.com is doing a sale on the OCZ Octane drive, at $170 less than the listed price on newegg.com!

Octane seems to be a new class of drive from OCZ, so I don't know how to compare it to a Vertex drive. So my question is simple, which drive is better? Octane or Vertex4? NewEgg lists the 256gb Octane at $330, and the 256gb Vertex4 at $200. Why is the Octane so much more expensive? Should I buy the Octane at $170 today, or just get the Vertex4?

I do a lot of work with HD video, because of this, at least two of these drives will be in a RAID-0 array for high speed consistent sequential write speeds.

If you want consistent speeds, then the Vertex 4 is not the best choice. Even with firmware 1.5, the speeds are all over the place.

And I wouldn't touch the Octane with a ten foot pole. That is one of the worst lemons from a company that makes nothing but lemons. OCZ should be avoided entirely.

I recommend a Plextor M3, Plextor M5S, or Samsung 830. They cost a little more than OCZ's crap, but it is worth it to get a good quality SSD.

The Octane is actually a decent performing drive (as long as it isn't the Octane S2 or whatever the cheap version is), but it is outclassed by the Vertex 4. The reason it is listed at $330 is because it is likely end of life. I would not buy one with the ~$200 pricing on a 256GB Vertex 4/Crucial M4/Samsung 830, any of those drives are superior.

As I posted above, I won't buy anything from OCZ anymore. In addition to that, the V4 (even with the 1.5 firmware) is speedy enough, as long as you have less than 50% of the drive filled. Go .1% over 50% and the performance states change, and are less than great.
