I have a OCZ gamextream 600w and I have been experiencing random shutdowns. The pc would shutdown and reboot by itself. I had the same problems with a seasonic s12 600w. Is this a psu issue or is it my mobo?

I am still using the OCZ and I have not gotten a shutdown recently but my pc is really finicky.

my overclock is 24 hour stable

Hello, I'm sure it's not the PSU that is the issue. The recommendation to back of on your OC is a good one. It's probably warmer where you are now and that can have an effect on your system. If you are having random shutdowns, you can't really say your OC is 24 hour stable.

When do these shutdowns occur?

You system config looks OK, unless you have cathode lights and several drives.

If the overclock was the problem, I would get BSOD and not a complete shutdown. Besides, I did smell something funky from the OCZ psu once. Smelled like something was burning. This happened after I transported my pc back home and booted it up. Ever since the burning smell, my pc has been shutting off randomly. Before it was rock solid.

So i suspect the psu. I heard that these gamestream PSU have issues with the 12v line rippling out of spec. Im surprised that my pc still works but i still get random shutdowns once in a while.

Im going to RMA this gamexstream. Pretty sure it is a PSU issue.

Hello, let's get an RMA going for you. PM me with your email address and I'll send you what you need to start.

I won't get into the whole ripple debate. You can believe what you want, but we have had no problems with this PSU line and I personally run the 600w and 700w GameXStream models in my personal rigs. They are rock steady and OC great!

Thanks

If the overclock was the problem, I would get BSOD and not a complete shutdown.

Ive gotten BSODs, quick reboots, complete shutdowns, lock ups, not resuming from stand by, ect. from an unstable overclock on numerous different systems. Just because you dont get a BSOD doesnt mean its not the overclock failing. My OCZ 700w is a good PSU, never had a complaint.

This started happening ever since I smelled something burning in the psu. So it is not my oc.

there are several causes for computer shutting down like that but most times its a heat issue, i know with me mine started doing that out of the blue sometimes when i would load a game etc and turned out to be my video card was starting to go so eventually it got worse and shutdown more often. Not sure if that is your problem but it could be one or psu ofcourse is a first place to look as its the number one thing to go on a computer.

good luck
