After a year with OCZ 700 PSU, when i tried to reboot last night sparks and smoke came from the unit and also tripped the house hold breaker and ups gave a warning sign....

What are the chances of a psu frying my mobo and cpu at the same time.

With the new ATI video cards coming out, could anyone suggest another PSU unit, hoping that my quad core is not fried.

I have narrowed my decision down to :
1 Thermaltake 1200w
2 Ultra X3 1000w
3 Silverstone sst st1000w

uncheerfull

Hardware

MOBO: Intel DX975XBX2
CPU: QX6700
RAM: Corsiar 4Gb XMS
Hard Drives: 4x Raptors
Video: ATI 1950 512

They can but it depends on how it fails. If it fialed on the primary side you are probably fine. Best bet is to try a backup PSU to see what all is good.

Waiting patiently to find a local computer store to open tomorrow morning, the wait is killing me...

Depending on your video card, you could get by on a MUCH lesser psu. Think Silverstone Olympia 650, Corsair HX 520, maybe even an Enhance 5150GH, if you don't go with SLI / Crossfire

If the things still under warranty, you can always RMA it :p I did with my modstream and get a brand new gamexstream 850W that I'm not using. I don't trust their psu's anymore.

Wow, that sucks. Makes me concerned about my OCZ 700 now.

I'm hoping to get new 2900's when they come out and use my curent 1950 as physics processor

cheers

I bought the Silverstone SST 1000w

Having my system up and running for a while, I decided on a new case and some fancy lights.
What I bought was logisys 120 mm fans with UV CCFL to add some decoration.
before hooking everything up on the silverstone, I tested everything that i can. As soon as i plugged the lights in sparks started flying and burnt the bulb.

Now I have the silverstone up and running and no fancy lights going just good ol fans. Everything seems to be working fine now.

I am some glad that the mobo and cpu is still alive, hate to lose so much invested.

Thanx for any help
Cheers

Too late.
I already bought the silverstone 1kw,
PC Power does make a nice and probably the best PSU, but along with the best comes the best price.

quite happy with the silverstone.
