Oculus has just released their Core 2.0 Beta software to the public for use. They've updated the Dash and updated the desktop app. They also are providing a new Oculus Home so you can customize your Home experience. All in all this appears to be a major software release and you can go to their support page to enroll in the beta. If you have a Rift this is a must have software upgrade. Give it a try and let the rest of us non-VR enabled folks know how you like it.

The Rift Core 2.0 beta is now available for you to use when you opt into the Public Test Channel. We're excited to hear about your experience, and look forward to your feedback. Rift Core 2.0 is designed from the ground up to be more powerful, more intuitive, and more personal. Whether you're diving into VR every week or spending time daily developing your own apps, we want you to be able to take full advantage of your PC.

Would love to get back into VR, just not buying again until the screens are 4k minimum.

Same. I preordered an Oculus ten minutes after preorders opened, so I was fully onboard initially, but the crap resolution and SDE ruin it for me. I've probably only used it once this year. :(

It's subjective. You may not mind it but it drives me nuts.

I had to resist so hard on those black friday deals... maybe boxing day haha... i'm pretty worried they'll announce Rift 2 right after I get one, but even then it'll probably be twice the current price I guess

The SDE drove me crazy for the first day but I don't notice it much anymore. I really think it depends a lot on the game.

ah, was hoping this might contain some info on new occulus hardware, guess we're still stuck with the first iteration of all VR wear for another year or so :(.

It's really surprising considering the speed that cellphones evolve (technically and spec* speaking, weather you notice it is another topic all together), Since a vr headset is essentially just a cellphone strapped to your face. I'd love to see higher ppi, resolution, and frame support. Having these options might fragment the market but lets be honest, the only viable market right now is PSVR, and the pc side of things is just a niche that has potential. I'm finding it harder to believe that PC VR is going to ever be a game changer, despite how amazing the technology is. People just aren't going out and spending 1500$ on Desktop pc's in mass exodus anymore. When we converge to a sweet spot where 1080ti type graphics are the norm in laptops and cellphones, maybe there will be some light. Until then, considing the average pc gpu is around an nvidia 750 or so, and whatever intel has released for integrated in the last few years, I really don't see anything changing that dramatically. However, considering that trickle down over time for graphics power, we could start to see the average (low end) laptop/pc running 1080ti type graphics 5-7 years down the line, this would be when there is enough horsepower available to start delivering a good experience for even the lowest common denominator.

The way I hear parents with kids around my sons age talk about how much of an investment psvr is for xmas, I can't imagine any of them throwing down 2k for a decent pcvr experience anytime soon. :(

My thoughts and experience as well. I have high hopes for gen 2 though. Hopefully they release it with not only a resolution bump, but also wireless.

It kind of pissed me off they did the full bundle for like $300 but couldn't discount the controllers for existing owners. For now mine is collecting dust until I can get some controllers for < $50. I'm just not willing to shell out another $100 on something I might end up barely using like the headset.

SDE goes away if the game does not suck.

Would rather get the Samsung Odyssey with 2880x1600 resolution or else wait and see how the Pimax 8k is. Kill the screendoor effect once and for all.

Wow. The desktop feature looks good, even with a text document. I like it!

I agree, but it has to live through Gen 1 to get to Gen 2. For myself, I'd prefer hardware to wireless convenience, though.

SDE is totally gone for me. Its as if the more i play the better everything looks. Best entertainment purchase i have made in a long time. Its like having an amusement park in my basement. I might have to join the beta... sounds cool

I see people that say the SDE went away or is unnoticeable. Sadly, not the case for me.

Super sampling helps to, I have no issues reading icons and text on the desktop/chrome in this new update. So far its really cool, only got to play about 25 minutes but it is a huge improvement over the old dashboard

But how long can you read text before you get eye fatigue? For me, it was pretty quick. I say fatigue - may eye strain is a better description.

so far none? I have never experienced eye fatigue or any negatives to VR in general yet, I have had a few 2-3 hour play sessions and felt just fine afterwords. Worse thing I ever experience is sometimes I will wobble when im standing still but trying to use something like a roller-coaster sim

Oculus tray tool, if you go to the oculus forums there is a link to download it, if you have the GPU power to do it Super sampling is a nice bonus, I just upgraded from a AMD 290 to a GTX 1080 and I do notice the SS when I'm trying to focus on the finer details like text or far distance things.

For me it was Windlands since I did not like heights. But it helped me a lot.

Oh if were talking VR experiences for stuff I have a real life fear of then heights always screw with me. That and small crawly shit jumping at my face activates my nope button very fast, but that's more of a compliment to my Rift being that immersive for me lol

It may be, even just going from 1.0 to say 1.1 or 1.2
