As some of you may recall, admin from the OCN Forum offered a folding bounty and later tacked on conditions involving a donation in the name of the [H]orde to the charity of our choice, and an equal donation in the name of eVGA. Well, due to a surprising change in the folding landscape, barnettworks is on the verge of collecting on that bounty. So I was asked to bring this to you guys and gals for input.

Someone estimated it to be more than a $1,000,000 worth of hardware, so the only place you can find anything remotely like that is at a data center, or some other company where there are tons and tons of servers. At a dollar per PPD, it aint coming from somebody's condo, I can guarantee that!! :eek:

That ain't even pocket change for one of our wealthy Wall Street bonus getters ;) If all those pernts are coming outa' someones condo it must be a condo the size and scope of a United Airlines hanger (with no airliners inside and a big one at that :rolleyes:)

Yeah, they made the same offer to us over at EVGA. We are in the process of trying to agree on which charity we will ask them to donate the money to. I would suggest you guys start the same discussion.

No telling if BW will make it, but clamatowas is trying not to pass him until he reaches that milestone. There is another superfolder 'mutsu' that seems to be a weekend warrior and could cause an issue with the donation. But BW is using 9 blade servers and has 15 idle that he can tap if need be to get to the goal. It is not a matter of 'if' it is only a matter of 'when'.

So, basically what you're hinting at is he can approach 2M PPD if he decided to deploy all his guns?

I actually mis spoke. He is folding on 9 chassis, of Blade servers (not 9 servers) and has 15 Chassis unused.
If he is getting a million PPD using 9 Chassis, and he started using 9 more, he would be at 2 million ppd, and still have 6 chassis unused. If he deployed all his guns he would be closer to 2.7 million PPD.
BW, clamatowas, strudinox, and totes6 all work for the same data center, and have the blessing of mgmt to do this work. But it won't be forever.

There are people out there losing their jobs, having their bank accounts disappear and their homes taken from them and companies are letting millions of dollars of computing power be used for folding just so three guys can compete in a points race?

Any solid proof these guys actually have approval from their management to fold on their company's dime?

I don't see anything in the thread linked above ... something just doesn't seem right here.

Solid Proof, ummm, yea, yea. we have that. They filed their solid proof certificates with us before they started folding. Did I forget to attach them to my post? :eek:

Seriously, though. I am not sure we really need to look a gift horse in the mouth, but we have asked that question of them just for their own safety in the business place. All have said they have the blessing of mgmt. I don't think I need more proof than that. But if you feel the need, feel free to post the question to any of them either publicly on the EVGA or OCN forum, or through pm. That is what I did. They are all pretty cool guys and do not mind having discussions about thier server situation.
Also, strudinox is trying to get his own tech review site started. Nothing to do with folding at all, so if you guys want to look at it feel free to peep. Not mych there yet but the shell of a forum, but, hey, you gotta start someplace.

In fact I think the economy is the main reason their servers have not deployed yet.
 
There was a incident last year where a folder got in a huge heap of trouble with Stanford for not having written permission ... millions of points were taken away ... not trying to be a pain here ... just want to make sure nobody gets hurt over a points contest ... nice idea though ;)

I know that management isn't always the most observant, but it seems to me that if this wasn't on the up and up, somebody would have noticed by now. You just can't hide that many blades running at 100% that everyone else is expecting to be off. :D

mutsu has been folding for years, hardly a "weekend warrior"
 
On another note, how is out of the top 50 folders, only 3 are from [H]? Overclockers.com has 5 and overclocks.net has 6. WTF people!?

Our strength historically has always been in the mid to low end of the production scale. Quantity vs quality. For a good chunk of the time this team has folded, there weren't any members I would call a farmer, not until FLECOM came around. Those before him were sporadic or didn't stick around very long. Many of our top competitors had big guns putting out big numbers almost from the onset. This team by contrast has always been about the average person.

I am new here, and fold for EVGA, but what you say rings absolutley true. You guys are where you are not because you had a few folding gurus, but because you have a lot of good folks who stick to it over time. Because of your committment to this and your endurance over time, you have reached the pinnacle of folding. I am sure you have seen your share of flash in the pan folding teams make a burst then die off because they lacked committment.

They live within 20 miles of each other, but I believe it is only clamatowas and barnettworks who work at the same company.

I believe there is a third guy that works with clam and bw, and was a big PPD guy before, but its not mutsu.
 
where do they work? some think tank or something?
