OCing the 3000+ Article Discussion

Well I can tell you that my 6800GT scores 11,600's with my A64 at stock 2ghz...I run it up to a nice overclock at 2.5ghz and my 3DM2K3 scores only go up to a decent 12,200 range...so it would seem that indeed, my vid card is the bottleneck, since I can increase the core and ram speeds on it and get the same amount of gains as with the cpu overclock.

Overclocking my cpu nets me about a 10% increase in Doom3 speeds, and about 15% in Far Cry. Far Cry is cpu hungry it would seem...add in a 15% overclock to my vid card and I do get a very nice gaming speed increase, Far Cry needs everything it can get for online gaming...

I know this thread is getting fairly long in the tooth, but my VNF3-250 with the 7/29 BIOS runs 250x10 all day long with the HTT at 4x (1000). My 3000+ does 2.5ghz with only 1.55v set in the BIOS and a very modest silent watercooling setup that is really on par with high end air. But again I like the silent effect... ;)

Are alot of people pulling thease results on the VNF3-250? Is your memory 1:1? or less? im looking to replace my MSI k8t-neo still, and the price of this board fits nicely...

(Please excuse me, I am a noob to OCing but I did read the stickys so dont be too harsh on me)

Im kind of confused here. In the article and on here I see cpu-z info showing great overclocks but with pc3200 ram. I was under the impression that you want to run 1:1 fsb to your memory bandwith, especially on AMD systems.

I have:

3000+
K8n neo plat
1x 512mb pqi turbo ram rated at 2-2-2-5

I can get 2.2ghz if I relax the timings to 2.5-3-3-8. However, this doesnt seem to add to my gaming experience (Doom 3 demos show no increase in fps). Anything more and my system doesnt want to boot. Is there something Im missing? How are you guys getting such good overclocks w/ pc3200 ram? I checked my cpu temps wwhile under stress and it goes to about 45 degrees, so I was thinking its prolly not heat. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Because of the onboard memory controller, the K8 core does ok when the ram is run slower than fsb. It's not ideal, but you don't lose much (like with the K7). You can use cheaper ram that way.
