OCing Opteron 165 - Different Core Temps?

Hey all

So got an Opteron 165, stepping CCBE 0617FMPW, am using a Scythe Ninja Revision B with a generic 120mm fan at the moment. Anyway, had some temp probs and had to remount the FHS, but is doing well now. Anyway, I noticed in Everest ultimate edition that like, for instance right now while running Prime95 at stock speeds, my CPU is listed as 49C,. Core1 at 47C and Core2 at 55C. I've seen Core2 running anywhere from 5-10C higher than core one. Is this normal? What's the deal. I definitely have an excellent mounting of my FHS this time.

WHen I was OCing it earlier, Core 1 would fail while core 2 wouldn't in prime 95 (before I got FHS issue worked out) is this common?
 
might be a crappy IHS on that chip. im assuming its not delidded?
 
yep, standard IHS on it... took care mounting the FHS. Seems solid contact & good performance. Still having issues with CORE 2 failing.
 
Ahh....CCBBE stepping....not the best, but not the worst.

pop the lid on it. You'd be surprized what that can do for those 165's.
 
I'll add to the motion to pop the lid, I went from 3ghz suicides to 3ghz daily clock on my 165 back in the day when I popped it. Should get those cores a little closer to balanced in temp as well.

I'll second that notion. I popped the lid on an CCB1E and an LCB9E. Both had their temps drop considerably and OC's stabilize at higher frequencies.
 
This thread makes me wax nostalgic actually, I miss that rig in a way. I sold it for a profit since it was exotic and water cooled and as fast as they came at the time, but it was fun to play with. I actually had the top spot on HWBot for Opteron 165's in PCMark05 for a long time.
