i've read, and i've read, and i've read, and i...... read. there is no guide out there that is gonna help me. i need answers from the people that know what they're doing.

here is what i got from guides

1) to overclock, you have to raise your fsb and memory frequency at the same time. if you raise one from 200 to 210, you gotta raise the other to 210

2) to achieve this, you will need to increase vdimm and vcore, and you will also need sufficient cooling

3) to test if your memory is stable, you leave memtest86 running for at least 8 hours. i still dont know how to test if your cpu is stable with its new voltage

that is all i've gotten from guides. i read the overclocking guide on this page 2 times already, and i was bored to death with all the talk of memory at the link it gave.

now, i went into my bios, and i was ready to start adjusting some stuff.

saw the multiplier
saw the vdimm
saw the vcore
saw the fsb frequency
but i didnt see the memory clock
i found timings, but not frequency
actually, i found the frequency, but it only had 100/133/166/200, that's all

i'm runnin a MSI K8N NeoFSR w/ a ClawHammer 3400+ w/ TWINX1024-PC3200C2PT

i just want to know a couple of things. a) how do i find or unlock the option that lets me adjust the memory frequency? b) how do i test if the cpu is stable? and c) is there something i'm not getting about the whole overclocking thing?

i've read, it didnt help me. i've posted before, no one helped me. i'm just a simple n00b who wants to overclock so i can have a kick ass computer, and maybe if i learn enough, i can teach other people how to do the same.

Your memory runs at your fsb frequency, the memory also has a divider which allows it to run at lower than the fsb frequency. (I suggest putting a large divider so you wont have to worry about memory while finding your max oc)

You only increase voltage by the smallest increments availiable to see if it will allow a higher overclock. Voltage will increase your temps by a noticable amount, too much voltage can kill a cpu.

Screw memtesting for hours, thats just a waste of time. One pass on memtest will be fine to test your memory speed or overclocks that you think might not boot into windows. Test your overclocks with prime95. Run it for a minimum of a couple hours for quick testing, 12+ hours for stability testing with an overclock you plan to keep.
 
little confused about the divider thing. if you could go a lil more in depth, that would help.

ok, so now i know, if i increase my fsb, it is also overclocking my memory. alright. BUT, there is an option under all the memory options that says "max memclock" and it has the timings i mentioned.

so i should put it on auto?

so now i should test all this in prime95. ok. anything else i need to confirm or ask..... hmm...

really, i just need those 2 answers now about max memclock and dividers.
 
Alright your bios gives you the memory divider in mhz assuming the fsb is at stock. So set it as 100mhz and begin overclocking, this will set your ram frequency at half the front side bus, so you will have pleanty of leeway.

After you found your max oc go ahead and try to get your memory as close to 200mhz without going over through the memory divider. Overclocking memory is a whole other story. I wish I could go into more detail with ya but the more I try the more im having to describe the whole overclocking process etc.

I can atleast give you a way to find out what your mem clock would be after you raised your fsb.

100 = fsb * 1/2
133 = fsb * 2/3
166 = fsb * 5/6
200 = fsb
 
alright. i'm pretty much all set to OC using tsuehpsyde's guide, but if that doesnt work, i'll use the other one.

only thing wrong with tsuehpsyde's guide is it doesnt talk about voltages.
 
My guide is a stepping stone to get you started, then once you have a feel for what I consider a safe overclock (no increased voltages....getting the most out of stock things) you can go wandering for more compehensive info ;) PM me if you have any questions reguarding voltages tho, I can gladly help.
