Hey,

I just have an issue with what it seems to be my processor when playing unreal or any games at clocked speeds of 2.6. At first it seemed to look as if it were to be my card when VPU recover occurse. I read the message that it was giving and it just acts as if the CPU is too fast or something( or this is what I understand from the message that it gives me). i have thought that maybe it was a heat related problem, so then i ordered a thermalright SP-97, temps did come down significantly but it still did the same thing. Now I noticed that in my bios( Abit NF7-S R. 2.0) that it has a menu that display CPU throttling, now if it is a heat issue, where at certain points during processing generates a lot of heat suddenly, with that throttling feature can i control that or what? Sorry if my questuion sounds confusing, just desperate to get an answer.

PS: other than games the processor works just fine doing other things or applications.

Thx :)

do stress tests work fine?
do problems get resolved if you back down overclock?

I have done prime95 stays stable without a problem. The Games though keep doing the same thing, till i down clock to about 2.5 1/2. but yeah thx for the help

Do you use an ATI video card? If you have modified your FSB then the video card may be flaking out. I think that is what is happening with my system too. I had to leave my FSB at 200 to stay stable and keep from frying the mobo again.

If the problem goes away when you lower the CPU clock then you are probably hitting the limit of your overclock at the current voltage. You could try raising the voltage up another notch, not sure what kind of temps you are looking at right now though.

Yes, i have a 9600XT Fireblade Edition, i have messed with my FSB, had that at 208.

For aug1516, I have gone up to 2.7 even with this mobile and it's runs great until I run any games, the voltage at those speeds is pretty high though at about 1.9 and temps are what really kill me then, reaching at about 135 degrees F. Personally i think that it's really the temps in my case that causes this, because the temps are at about 95 degees in the case when clocked at those speeds. I would really like to keep these speeds or at least 2.6 so I can atleast keep up to speed with an A64 3200+.

PS: I must add that I also have my ram OCed as well( originally PC2100@333mhz-PC2700) and latencies are also tweaked as well( stock was 2.5-4-4-6@ 2.0-2-2-3). So can this also cause an instability in the system? thx

well, if you're raising the clock speed AND lowering the timings, i would look at those first..at least relax the timings down to stock, and maybe even a little looser.

could extremely high case temps be causing video card (or something else other than cpu) to be over heating?

have you tried running at those speeds with side panel off and maybe a big fan blowing on it to make sure case temps are down?

::shrug:: just throwing things out there...does seem like an interesting problem for sure
