I have a gigabyte UD p55A UD 3 with intel 1156 chipset i5 750 quad core @3.8 with 4gig memory GSkill stock timings, EVGA 465GTX, samsung 830 128gig drive plus 2 80 gig 7200 sata drives backup, XFX 650 PSU, audigy 2 Recently I decided to get more Mem & got the same RAM as above but 4x4 & also a western digital Black 500Gig hdd. Now when I went to OC again I could not OC...What is going wrong here? The only difference is the extra 4x4 ram which is now set to dual channel previously I had only single channel & the 500Gig WD....Please help
 
More RAM probably requires a slight bump in voltages for the RAM and/or controller. Test memory with Memtest before attempting to apply any overclocks, to make sure the new stuff is working properly.
 
Thanks for the reply timta2. Do you happen to know how much vcore is safe for this CPU? I cannot remember at what vcore I was OCed to 3.8...What test should I run to see if mem is stable?
 
Mem tested fine. However, I did do this. I bumped up the multiplier to 12 & blk 200 & it would not boot to windows which is basically slower speeds than the actual stock settings of this CPU...However, before I installed the 4X4 memory I was running my PC 24/7 @ 19X200....Does that mean the Extra ram is causing the huge decrease in overclock? So far all I could reach was 150x20 with 1.25vcore, any ideas?
 
what ram you running? is it 1.5v or 1.65v?

is XMP enabled in bios?

maybe reset the bios to default...or optimal settings..and start overclocking from there.

I took out the 2X2 gig and only have the 2X4 in dual channel now. However, my overclock still cannot reach what I had with the 2X2...Are 2X2 just better for OCing? The mem sticks are the exact same but higher gig. Also, I noticed my temps reached over 70 when I was at 3.5 with the same vcore I was @ 3.8..I dont remember the temps being that high when I was at 3.8...The cpuz below is from my previous OC with only a 2X2 gig ram installed in single channel & not dual. I can post my CPU-z from the current build under. If you need anymore info just ask What are safe load temps for these CPUs?
