Quick question, I just tried my first OC on an Athlon 2600+. I managed to get the FSB from 200 mhz to 220. Once I went above 220 my comp would not recognize the HDD as having an OS on it. I clocked it back to 220 and started windows normally and ran 3dMark05 fully with no issue. The next couple of programs I attemped to open gave me a .dll error and then a registry error. I restarted my comp, but now it freezes on the windows loading screen. I set the Bios back to default but am still having the issue. Is it actually possible to corrupt your HD or windows with an OC?

It is very possible if your motherobard doesnt have PCI/AGP locks. I have corrupted my OS a few times because of it. If you can go into your bios and lock your buses if it allows you (33mhz PCI, 66-67mhz for AGP)

Hrmm so I'm guessing that I'll have to format the drive and reinstall? Or will locking the pci/agp buses actually fix whatever is causing it to not sart up any more?

Once you've corrupted it, it's gone.

You need to reformat and lock the bus for future overclocking adventures.

Well I tried locking the bus but after I rebooted I got zero video output so I had to reset my BIOS and set it back to automatic. There's also a lock for 75.5 Mhz, should I use that one or is it going to just cause the same problem? So I can OC to 220 without locking the AGP bus and I wont have to worry about corrupting the hard drive at all?

Any idea why when I do try to lock the bus my Mobo stops recognizing the video card on start up? I'm running a x800 GTO on a KV8-MX board.
