Well in 2-3 months (Sept or Dec) when they're in stock and new video cards come out for DirectX10 I'm going to upgrade.. and conore prices level out or AMD.

But, here is the scoop.

I want to get some more performance out of my p4 3.2c northwood socket 478 HT.

Should I just raise the frequency of the FSB from 200 to 205 then 210, 215 etc?
I could never get a stable oc but, then again I've never really played with it.
My ram is 3500 Kingston hyperX.
How should I go about getting the best out of my proc.. I need indepth.
Can I just keep raising the FSB or do I need to play with ram etc?
My rig stats are in my sig..

My goal is for it to last me another 2-3 years (Back up rig) but have a stable overclock preferably 3.6 Ghz range.

Thanks!

Also, it's hot in my room.. Temp for cpu I don't know if it's right but 49*c underload and 40*c idle, in my basement.. 28*c Idle, 35*c LOAD!

My current cooling is 3 90mm fans, PSU fan (90mm) , 1x (90mm exit fan), Stock intel CPU cooler.

:(

It's ok, but it seems more AMD based.

Besides I forget the control for my motherboard to unlock memory timing..

i had a p4 socket 478 3.ghz, that i oc to 3.3ghz using this oc guide. it's basically the same.

yeah, just ignore the part about ht link and how the memory speed is calcuated, and it's all good :p

Ok,

But, can I just continue to raise FSB..

My motheboard is a little funky from an ASUS motherboard at my friends.. his seemed easy

yes u can, until ur system becomes unstable. make sure ur mem is not the limiting factor. socket478 intel takes a huge hit on performance when u use a memory divider.

I took some screenshots. I hope these are ok? I raised by 16x213 = 3.4 Ghz = 200mhz oc.
It's a start now I'll go by 5?

I just played some CS:S with it to test it and it froze.. 200Mhz oc is nothng... :( This happend before too. I really think my PSU POWMAX 550Watt is a limiting factor? Or is it something else. It ran fine until I hit up CS:S.. and it froze in game..

No, your power supply is alright. I'm betting that it's a Ram issue... Can you run a ram divider? Since your ram is rated to PC3500, I'm wondering why there's an issue so early.

Try changing the Tras timing to 9.

i can check in a little bit, but i think i need to hit crtl + something to acess it, which i forget! :(

CTRL while hitting the F1 key to bring up the Advanced Chipset Features section.

;)

w00t!

as arcygenical says' ur psu is not the prob.
run a divider, but intel takes a hit running a divider.

not a very large one.. at least compared to the aXP's :p

should I look for a divider option? What one would be the best choice? Do I enter these manually?

It gives me the option to change the cas latency from 2.0 to 2.5 in BIOS???

BUMP!
