I got a generic desktop p4 at my school from 2.6 to 3.18 without changing any hardware, superPI stable, too. The memery is stopping me at 3.18, I have a feeling. This oughta help with video editing. :)

We got dells (with "intel extreme" graphice), but i'm bringing in my oc'ed 1700 @ 1.9ghz w/ gf4 vid killer apple //e to use in CAD/ 3ds work :D

W00t we run a pos set up, they're like celerons. The thing can hardly run two internet explorers, I did get into the CD drive:D and put some dumb stuff on there, I tried a key logger but it wont record the passwords typed in at the begining:rolleyes:

maybe I should stop stalking now...;D

Ive always been tempted to buy a hardware keylogger and throw it onto a teachers comp :D

We run custom build OEM PC's with P4 1.8's in the labs, and Cellys 466 in the hallways (email machines).

NO DAMN WIRELESS EITHER!

Cheers,

I sense a lock comming on...

Hrm, we've got a wLAN but it only covers like 3/4 the school and the admin is a clueless balding 23 year old with no college education.

When I'm bored I load up KNOPPIX and screw with his network. He gives rewards for breaking into stuff. I've got a list of 2300 public proxies I can swap for bess hidden using comments in an inconspicuous HTML file on my shared drive.

I've also got 2 gigs of MP3s and a bunch of divX on my school issued Coppermine Stinkpad.

I'm working on overclocking the p2's in the MIDI lab. If they blow up nobody would notice.

What kind of rewards. "Just for being able to bypass the firewall you get upgraded to a 833mhz notebook :D"

we Run 35x40 gig wd hdds
2.4-2.8c shuttles with 512-1gig of ram depending waht computer it is. Few have 9800pros few have intel extreme and few have inbetween.

My school runs all Dell OEMs with P4 1.8 Ghz or 2.6 Ghz procs, and all Dell flat panels (17 - 20 inches). I think in the last two years, my school acquired something like 600 new dells.

There's one iMac (the one with the flat panel and the semicircle base) floating in the computer science majors building. However, none of the CS majors including me ever use it...

I use the Alpha work stations though.

I got a P4 1.8a to 2.4 (18x133) on some Asus 845chipset motherboard at school. The only reason I did it was because it was too damn slow at running Autocad.

lol whatever. All you need is two computers side by side and an compu-ignorant (or substitute) teacher. Note, this only worked in highschool. I don't suggest trying it elsewhere.

Step 1: Swap keyboards on computer 1 and computer 2. When teacher goes to login to computer 1 or computer 2, whatever password he types is sent to the password or username field on computer 2.

Step 2: While the teacher is baffled that his input was ignored, get an accomplice to call him over for help. He'll get up, ignoring the current problem t help the other student. While he's up and away, switch the keyboards back, record or take note of the password and delete it.

Tada.

Worked with 3 different subs. Same password every time. We never used it for anything except for logging on as the teacher to use 3D Studio Max (We were tired of him coming around to enter the PW every day.)

He never questions how we were able to login without his help either. Pretty dumb.

Dual 2.0 Xeons at school here.

Render times are pretty fast spread across 60 of these machines.

We are doing almost that sometime, but we're just going to swap the keyboards round and Ill type stuff onto the other screen and pretend im the computer speaking to the teacher, I read about it somewhere and now Ive got to try it!!!

my school got amd althons and p4 desktops running at 1.4, and 1.6.
and we have old these old dell desktops and the processor is at around maybe 150* F and they still work.

interesting idea if the teacher's comp was near.
also so nothing seemed amiss you could type in what you saw on the screen onto your kb hooked up to his comp

my high skoo has compaq P4s in one lab (25), older P3 gateway's (those thin stand up ones from awile back) in the other lab - with these same ones in all the rooms, more P4s in the CAD drawing room (never been in their but once - me=freshmen), the library has about 20 compaq P4s (these are the newest - front USB, bring my usb key and download shit all the time), and 2 mobile labs, IBM thinkpad centrino 1.8ghz (or 1.6ghz, not sure)

all have WinXP except the old gateways, which have win2k

wi-fi covers entire school and then some (APs in almost every other room), and you can bring own laptop, have the comp teacher enter in wi-fi settings, and use it on school grounds (can also have PDAs connect to network)

everyone has own logon name+password, plus a network drive (60gb total, 30gb remaining - i use 25mb myself right now - was almost 2gig yesterday, rest i keep on usb flash drive to take home)

EDIT: we have a compatent teacher who manages the main network (a couple others for the CAD, web design, comp 100, and computer programing), only had 2 schoolwide viruses that took down the entire network (really funny if you ask me)

At my work we have 500 machines or so. Alot of macs and alot of PC's the bulk of which are about 2.4GHz P4's to 2.8GHz HT P4's.

damn our school sucks we have one lab with g3s most with emacs and older (powerpcs) along with some old pos compaqs.

man u guys are complaning about 1ghz machines. were running windows 3.1 on some machines at my school and are hard pressed to find a windows 95 let alone a 98. Like freeking 133's and shit. Its pathetic. Our "technology lab" after the roof caved in last year due to a water pipe breaking water + computers = new computers. Anyway with the crap ass budget my school has, they replaced them with a bunch of crappy dells. sigh, i hate my school. I cant wait to go to university.

For anyone doing any business degree at my uni (1000 freshers a year plus 2nd, 3rd and honours) theyve GOT TO have a laptop to complete the course. We have what is basically a laptop class where we learn interesting things about internet explorer, the right and left mouse button and when our batteries r low! so weve got 3 hours a week where we just sit and play champ-man.
IBM have got the deal sewn up, for anyone who doesnt have a laptop (i did) they will selll us through the uni subsidised thinkpads. Depending on how much ur willing to pay you can end up with a refurbished p4m 1.7 or a brand new centrino w/ graphics etc. absolute scam that weve got to buy it tho:p

We have a couple thousand dell p2/p3 350/400 etc. But to be honest they dont need to run anything better. Constantly upgrading the old stuff, nothing fancy, 2.6/2.8 p4s with 512, naturally all dell.

The engineering school has plenty of big dual boxes along with a powerful unix box - our engineering faculty specialises in mech eng with aeronatuics and avionics which needs plenty of crunchin calculations.

Strictly NO MACS. The way it fukin should b if u ask me:p

hasta,
oni

We just got a new lab this year, not too bad in my opinion..

2000+
BioStar nForce2's
512mb DDR
40 gig drives

They compile Java like no one's business...oh..and play Half Life 2... :)

Mac lab with like 22 G4's in it. I love it, nothing can stop me from just clicking the proxie off and coming here. But all the other Pentium 2's in the school are crap. And they switched boot order so I cant load up Knoppix, and the BIOS is locked. :(

university of pittsburgh at bradford...all new dell 2.6-2.8 or better with HT...17" flat panels. DVD drives, zip 750's, media readers, etc...and the laptops are all P4m 2.4's with 512mb ram and integrated wireless...the only thing that could be better...is if they were athlons on gigabit ethernet for the labs and 802.11G for the laptops...

the high school? crap dells, crap gateways...mostly p2's & p3's...i think the broadcast journalism teacher has more computing power in his room than the entire netowrk up there...which is pretty sad since i think he only has a P4 2.4C or something like that :D

ur schools sound so damn nice!
mi school has all pentium 1's that run at lik 133 mhz...
the newest computer is a duel xeon with each runnin about 800mhz... dang
wut schools u go to? luckys...

sorry to change topic, but someone was complaining he couldn't use knoppix, what is knoppix? i have never heard of it.....

at least you guys have Windows/Linux running machines... WE just have imacs running OS 8

I got a question, is there anyway to make a shortcut from rightclick>new>shortcut of "run"? Let's say admin rights wouldnt let me into start>run and I wanted to reformat a computer. How would I go about doing it?

You go to school? Don't they teach you how to spell there? :D

How many of you guys are posting about your school being a College though.

At my school, and place of work (Work for district) We run anywhere from P1 133MHz>2.8GHz HT P4s>Quad Xeon Servers.
Have every flavor in between also!
