Hey guys, I am about to try overclocking my AMD Athlon 2600+ and I was wondering what I shuold try setting the multipliers at first? I think it is like 2.01 ghz or something around there right now and it isn't overclocked at all. I dont have any extra special cooling or nothing, just the usual amd fan and heatsink. Also, after I overclock, how do I make sure it is stable and won't crash up on me?

after you set an overclock get a program called

Prime95 and run the torture test

Open Prime95--->options---->torture test--->inPlace Large FFT's

it will go for an infinite amount of time without crashing if your OVerclock is okay. But as soon as it detects an error will shut off and you gotta re-access your overclock.

well i have tried prime95 before and after less than a minute of running it, i would get an error, even if i wasnt overclocking!

Alot of people have this problem. Altough Prim95 is crashing, any other program do not crash, even games and such.

With Prime95, I also test with "Hot cpu tester".

My 2600+ overclocks easily to 2800+ without any extra cooling, just the stock heatsink and fan that come with the processor. Rock solid.

I haven't tried going any higher than 2800+ but i'm sure it would do it. My multiplier is set to 12.5.

instead of Prime95, u should try F@H for hrs to see if anything happens

well i tried 200x12.5 which is 2500 and i think that was a bit high too start out at... my comp wouldnt boot up correctly... so what should i try next? it is currently at the default 166x12.5 which is 2053 or somethin

just go in steps of 5 till you reach 180/190, after this 1/2 per step. With every step, check your system for unstability. If it gets unstable just increase your vcore/vdimm if needed(do this in small amounts). And watch your temps, do not go higher than 60c load
