Just replaced 4 sticks of 512MB Corsair DDR2 PC800 RAM (5-5-5-12) with two 2GB sticks of the same stuff (5-5-5-18). Rig won't boot at these settings, so I had to restore deffault. Using an ASUS P5B. Had my E6300 at a comfortable 2.7ghz OC with good temps. Any idea what needs to change in order to get back to 2.7ghz with this new memory? Mind you, the memory is not OC'd, just the CPU. Any help is appreciated!

make sure the tras number (the 12 to 18 number in your timings) has actually increased to 18. Also try bumping your memory voltage in bios...

2.7GHz would require an FSB of less than 400MHz, so you wouldn't even need to run the RAM at its rated speed to hit that overclock. Just raise the RAM voltage to whatever the recommended level is for your memory and overclock the CPU like normal and you shouldn't have any problem hitting 2.7GHz or even higher than that.

What bout increasing the VCore a bit? I'm told that would be of a great benefit to reaching speeds beyond 2.7ghz for stability.

Only increase the VCore if you need to. Raise the FSB as far as you can with it being stable, and once you hit your limit you can start raising your VCore slightly to try and reach higher speeds. Rinse and repeat, but don't go higher than 1.5v with your current chip.

Got it set at 1.45v. FSB is at 400. Currently running at 2.8ghz. Should I have idle temps at 50C and 52C with AS5 and a Freezer 7 Pro? I've heard those are fine, but thought I'd ask.
