I haven't built a new machine in over 6 months now and during that time I've been paying less attention to HardOCP news, so I need a bit of a refresher for building my new box. So let me explain what I believe to be accurate about OC and you guys tell me if I'm wrong or have forgotten anything.
XP-120
I will be placing a quiet and not a performance fan on it.
AMD 3000+ 90nm
This is the best value for OC. There's very little reason for getting the 4000+.
Corsair 1GB 4400C25 (2x 512MB)
Even if I don't up having my core all that high because my fan won't be going too fast, I still want to get my FSB as high as possible and just use a lower multiplier. So I should try to get the best memory I can afford. The other components in my system (A8N-SLI, GF6600FT, D-Link WiFi, Chaintech A710 audio card) should not prevent me from reaching a higher FSB as long as I have good enough memory.
So... does that all sound right?
