OC/RAM problems with my 2.4c

With my old RAM (Corsair XMS pc3200 v1.2 - the CH5 kind), I couldn't get any stability past 198mhz FSB (nearly 3ghz).
Knowing that my problem was RAM, I just recently bought (and a few hours ago, installed) some OCZ PC4000 Gold Edition RAM thinking that better RAM would help me reach higher speeds.

My trouble is this: I cannot seem to get any stability past 250MHz on the OCZ RAM. I can run in 1:1 at 250MHz FSB just fine (at default voltage, even), but if I try 275, 265, or even 260, Prime95 fails almost instantly, if the computer even boots correctly. I've tried increasing the voltage all the way to 2.8V (the highest my motherboard supports), but still no luck with stability.

However, if I use the 5:4 divider, I can get my computer all the way to 3.4GHz stable, like it currently is. The problem with that being my RAM is only running at like 224MHz as opposed to something much higher.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to possibly get more stability when running the 1:1 ratio? I'd really like to get my RAM stable at 275MHz (3.3ghz core) if possible.
Also, how much performance am I going to lose running my RAM at ~225MHz instead of the 250MHz it's designed to run at?

My system specs:
p4 2.4c w/ Vantec AeroFlow
ABIT IC7 - latest BIOS
1GB OCZ PC4000 Gold Edition
eVGA 6800GT @ 420/1140
Antec True 430w
 
What's wrong with running it at 224MHz? Tighten up the timings and watch that ram fly.

what about 5:4 at 3.3? Is a further drop in memory speed worth the extra cpu power?
 
i have mine at 3.4 with my ram at 5:4, timings are 3-4-4-8, and im still getting 6.0-6.1gb/s of memory bandwidth using sisoft sandra.
 
i sacrifice 300mb/s of memory bandwidth going from 3.25 1:1 to 3.4 5:4 :(

Sorry. I should have elaborated that 3.4 wasn't 100% stable as I thought it was. I believe it may be very close to that, so I was assuming 3.3 would be rock solid.
