I've had the system in my sig going strong for a good 9 months now, love it to death. I've been at 3.6ghz since forever, happily, but I'm getting an itch so I'm trying to fine tune, lower some voltages and getting a few more clocks out of my rig in the meantime.
My current, stable OC is very simple:
FSB bumped to 400, PCI manually set to 100 and DDR multy manually set to 2.0. I left my DRAM timings set to auto (5-5-5-18) as well as all my system voltages set to auto. It should be noted that my system automatically sets v-core to 1.225, which I think is high. Real temp shows both cores to be running at 33 idle, 41 under load. Fine.
Now for my fine-tuning:
I started by tightening my ram up, manually setting the timings to 4-4-4-12, which is what this ram is rated at. Reboot, computer posts just fine, however, I notice my Real temps soar to 38-39 idle. Didn't even try to run prime95 so no idea what temps would be under load. So I try to manually lower my v-core, and the PC fails to post. Even manually setting the v-core to the system default of 1.225 causes it to fail post. I don't understand why tightening the ram raises the core temps?
I thought it was a BIOS issue so I updated to the newest BIOS with no improvements. Admittedly, I am a OC newb somewhat, but what could it be?
- Tightening RAM timings raises CPU temps.
- Manually setting v-core causes system to fail POST, regardless of what I set it at.
Do I need to raise the RAM voltage and not the v-core?
Why would manually setting v-core, even set to match the system default under the "auto" setting, cause the system not to post?
Thanks in advance.
