Hey guys
please help me oc my rig.rig is in my sig below.m a complete noob in oc.
i tried the asus auto oc but the vcore increses to 1.22 at 4.2 ghz.i googled and saw others getting 4.2 at stock voltage.so i disabled the oc.m at stock right now.please guide me step by step.also m at stock cooler right nw.ambient temp at around 19 centigrade.

yea that cooler is out of option right now.
i did what you told.but my cores are not downclocking to 1.6 ghz now.they run at 4.2 all time.also vcore is shown as 1.246 constant in hwmonitor.its not running at 1.1. is there anything wrong?
 
Whats your temp under load now?

move your vcore down , really the lower vcore means lower temps, but depending on your proc, some need more vcore voltage to boot at higher speeds.
 
i played crysis 2 for 10 mins and the max temp on the cpu package is shown to be 51 centigrade on open hardware monitor 0.5.1
 
how do i move the vcore down?
i chose manual voltage.then type 1.1.save it but after booting to windows it shows as 1.246
 
i ran the test for 15 mins.got 65,69,66,64 max temps on the cores.do these look ok?

a bit warm, but I would think doable, I would add nicer case fans or a better CPU cooler, if it was me.

You could also try 4 ghz to see if the temps are better.

I will let any asus owners help you out more.

i set the vcore at 1.1 and chng multiplier to 42.resets and boots up nicely.under bios vcore is shown as 1.1v but under windows it becomes 1.246,sometemes coming down to 1.23.
also my proc no longer downclocks though eist & sleep states are enabled.something fishy is going on!!
 
In your BIOS you need to set overclocking to manual (should be under tweaks) OC rather than automatic, that's why the adjustment isn't taking after you close the BIOS and return to the desktop.

As I stated above........

To overclock, you need to select "manual" in the overclocking section.
This will reset many settings to AUTO by default, so you'll need to write down all your settings in the default mode for the BIOS before you go to manual.

To have the CPU downclock at idle you need to enable Intel "speed-step" which is generally in the CPU or tweaking section in the BIOS.

Last......windows sucks at reading voltages, especially under load, due to the phenomenon of "V-Droop"....ie the VCore decreases under load, even if you have selected "load-line-calibration" in the BIOS......I generally don't mess with load-line calibration on an ASUS motherboard, I just deal with the Droop.:D

Download cpu-z to help you with the CPU overclock, intelburntest to stress the overclock and coretemp to check temps. I use hardware monitor (made by the cpu-z guys) to do the same thing due to it's broader activity.

Thank you magoo. i followed what you said.i got my oc.vcore is at 1.150 for 42 multiplier.max temp aftr 10 mins prime 95 blend is 64.i assume its safe.
Also for the downclocking speed step was already enabled before also,but now i changed the windows power profiles from high performance to other profiles and it started downclocking right away.
Also another question.I know all chips are different, but what at what minimum voltage the 3570k should run at 4.2ghz?

you will hit a temp limit before you hit a vcore limit . once you go above 1.3v it will produce a lot more heat if you don't have good cooler .
The chip tjmax =105c , this is the temp it will throttle down, now you don't want to get anywere near to that though.
Me personally I would not go higher than say around 70 or so in prime95, this gives you nice cool temps in real app, probably around 50-60c max .
Now thing is you probably won't get clocks to high before passing 70c but for mild OC (something in the 4.1-4.3ghz I think its very doable . once you get above 4.2 you will need to bump up vcore as multipliers goes up thats why the temps will go high like once your above 45x . at 4.0-4.2 you could probably get by with no bump in voltage over what auto gives at stock speeds .
Every chip is different so you can't go by anyones voltage, oc setting ,just go slow and bump each multplier up at a time and check temps, voltage etc .

Edit: I misread your question on vcore (thought you asked what was max ) . you can under volt what the auto amount is but be careful . probably only way would be to use manual, if you use offset a - xxx value you might end up with stable load at max speed/load but at idle and no loads it could get to low on voltage .

There no way to really give numbers as each chip are different , but if your using speedstep probably anything below 0.8v ofr idle and anything below 1.0 at stock max would/might cause issues . running 4.2 I couldn't go much lower than 1.1v IMO its just not worth trying to trim few .00x v .

Also check windows event logs for hardware errors WHEA's , if any show bump Vcore a bit to stop it .

You should probably restart and load power on defaults or optimized defaults and start again. Just change the multiplier only, leave everything else alone to start.

I am not certain what the minimum voltage would be......

what I would do is to set the VCore at default, set your multiplier at lets say 38 and run IntelburnTest......if it passes, up the multliplier to 39, repeat until you either reach 42 or become unstable, then up the VCore 0.05 or 0.1V and see what happens.

It's just trial and error.

Your minimum is your minimum for your chip.

Also remember, running games will never push the CPU like IntelBurn. So a nice temp at stress is like 70 to 75C.......and in games around 45C.
