This one's a tough one. I've got a P4 2.0Ghz running rock-solid at 2.605Ghz (130x4 FSB), i tested it running 3 days straight in memtest-86 and 1 full day running a looped 3DMark03. Anyways, my problem is that i can't get the FSB higher than 130x4 (i know that's not bad, but still). Also, here's the thing that baffles me, the P4 chip won't POST at voltages above 1.6v. I tried a setting of 1.6025v at the default speed and the overclocked speed, and neither will post, but both POST at 1.6v. Also, memtest-86 reports erros at settings of 131x4 FSB or higher and windows becomes unstable at those speeds Here's what i have, and here's what i've tried:
Asus P4P800 Deluxe (latest bios loaded) (Turbo and Memory
Acceleration: ON) (130x4 FSB)
P4 2.0a Ghz @ 2.605Ghz (northwood) Socket 478 (1.6vcore)
Corsair TwinX Matched Pair PC3200 CL2 2x256 (Bios timings: 2-2-
2-5) (2.55v)
Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 Ultra (latest drivers installed)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum (latest drivers
installed)
Generic 4x DvD+ Burner (latest firmware/driver installed)
Generic 52x Cd Burner (latest firmware/driver installed)
Floppy
Locked AGP/PCI frequencies (66/33)
120Gb Western Digital HD and an 80Gb WD HD (running a RAID
array/ RAID 0)
3 case fans (1 front, 2 back)
300w Power supply
Cooler Master Areo 4 Copper HS/Fan for Socket 478
Windows XP
What i've tried (with no luck) (131x4 FSB and greater):
1) increasing the timing settings in the bios for the DDR to the highest/slowest settings (memtest-86 errors present, even with slow settings)
2) Turned off the TURBO and Memory boost options in the bios (nada)
3) disconnected all nonessential hardware (cd-rom, etc) (thinking it was a voltage drop causing the P4 not to POST at anything higher than 1.6vcore) (nope)
4) disabling all nonessential onboard hardware (usb, sound, com ports, etc.) (nope)
5) Increasing the vcore voltage of the cpu to 1.6v and higher (overclocked, the processor only works at 1.6v... anything higher and the pc won't POST) (nada)
6) Locking the PCI and AGP bus via bios (no such luck)
7) Running each DDR stick by themselves in a 256mb single channel setup (one installed at a time) (zip-0)
8) Turning off hardware monitor in the bios (just a thought, but no, no luck)
9) increasing the RAM voltage all the way up to 2.9v in some cases (no luck)
Note: (My motherboard doesn't have DDR/FSB ratios in the bios settings. The only options i have are auto and DDR266. I've Posted at 133x4 FSB and the DDR333 setting appears as an option in the bios at that point. I imagine that the DDR400 setting only appears at the 800mhz FSB mark)
I don't know what else to try. I'm worried about the voltage thing, that is, not being able to increase the voltage above 1.6v? and 130x4 Mhz FSB works fine, but 131x4 is unstable?
I need help.
Thanks for your time.
Ryan
