oc decreases performance

my 9600xt oc'ed to 510core 325mem gets 3600 3dmark 2k3 score. if i go 500core and 325mem, i get 4050 2k3 score. wtf?
 
im using the overdrive feature with the 4.9 catalyst drivers and it overclocks it to 526 and default memory

what program do i use to overclock it manually?
 
heres my 9600xt

default settings: 500/338

3dmark03: 4141

overclocked: 525/345

3dmark03: 4236
 
well u got a pre oc'ed 9600xt then...

anyways, wtf, oc'ing is compltely failing me. i just got another 3600 on 3dmark 2k3 after setting my clocks at 500/329. man perhaps it is ati tool thats casuing this problem? or 3dmark?

Same here. That's what my second rig with the X800Pro uses.
 
Turn fast writes off in your BIOS. It doesn't really effect performance, but it can effect stability.
 
it affects stability for the better or for worst? and i read on tom's hardware that agp fast write can increase 10% performance.
 
On my 9600XT when I would overclock it my frame rate in counter strike dropped drasticly.

Don't believe everything you read, especially from tomshardware.
