OC a Palomino 2000+

I'm running a Palomino 2000+ on a A7N8X-E board and was curious what I could expect to OC it to? Also, do I need to unlock the processor first or should this board bypass that? Thanks!

you'll probably have to unlock it. Bridge all L1s by filling the pit with something insulating (such as crayon wax or super glue) then bridge the bridges with something conductive (pencil probably wont work). You can probably expect 2200+ speeds, if that :p

note: not 2200 mhz, 2200 speeds :p

Pallys suck.

Oh well. I traded a Thoro 1700+ for it straight across, so I can't complain too much! Thanks for the info!

You might get an extra 400 mhz out of that chip. Pally cores are HORRIBLE for OCing. I can get just under 400 mhz out of my 1900+. That's when I care about temp and stability. WE're talking mid 60's temp wise here.

If that was a 1700 T-bred B, then you were better off keeping it.

Hm...I think it was an A...I'll have to check as I can trade back if I ask. :)

You traded a friend? Just ask to look at the chip for a minute. :p Or run CPUid on the machine with it.

I had a 2000+ pally... i had it on overvolt(~2 volts) on my a7v8x.... i only got 34mhz out of it... 1700Mhz total :(

You had it at 2v? Or was it just .2v over stock?

Actually I traded it to my work place...the 2000 was spare and more than we needed to I was allowed to trade it...its still sitting around here somewhere.

If the 1700+ is a Tbred A, just stick with the Pally and leave it stock. That should be just fine.

Er er er, we've established that the Palomino core is just about the worst OCer that AMD has released so far...

No i beleive it was 2 volts, there was a jumper on the mobo called "overvolt" I think it put it at 2 volts, ill go find the manual and see what it says

Jeeze, that's a lot of voltage to pump through that core. Your temp is going to be high... I know 2v on mine would take me clear up to 70c and beyond.

But if you cannot overclock you can always reduce the voltage on chip;) I reduced voltage from my mobo by 50mV and it's now only 52.5C when it used to be 55C.

Lol, yep.. IIRC I had it at the most it would go. And on overvolt thats 2.05 , asus probe read it at 2 though. And yes.. temps were WAY high, asus c.o.p. kept shutting off my computer, every time it went above 80 which was often, poof... I'd have to leav it there for a while to cool down

My temp could also be because I live in Colorado, and the summers here are actually quite warm, especially last year ( 90-95 degrees around noon) and on top of that I was using the dinky stock heatsink that came with it.. Not the newer ones, but those ones that stand about 1 1/2 tall and have the tiny 60mm fan on it

Yeah, I used to bump my voltage down. I settle for it being at stock now, though.
