Well till I can build a new machine for gaming, I have been using my HP HDX 18, 1180CA. It has a GDDR3, It has stock clocks of 500 Core, 1250 Shader, and 800 Mem. I currently have it OCed to 700/1715/970. Its peforming a lot better, but im concerned with temp. I have read the card is rated for 90C, and im hitting 72-74 in games. Which is OK with me, I wanted to be under 70, so I might slowly back it off and find the happy spot. But I am unable to see my CPU temp during games, which kinda sucks, be nice to see what the GPU raises the CPU by. Im using EVGA Percision right now.

So whats the max temps I should go? is 70 best, or 75. I dont want to push into the 80s thats for sure.

Mine stutters at 104C and shuts the system down at 111C

If thats a help...

After cleaning it got awhole lot better.

not a bad overclock but change your shaders to 1728 just so it looks correct.. the g80/92/94 uses 54mhz steps and 1715 isn't one of those steps.. so its either rounding up or its rounding down.. if it fails at 1728 then your shaders were actually at 1674. check the graph in evga precision by double clicking on it. it will show exactly what i'm talking about.

as far as the temps go they are perfectly fine.. my card sits at 78C(yes i know mines a dedicated desktop card but the numbers still compare to the laptop variant) when gaming because thats what the cut off is for the default fan profile. so if the temps go over 78C the fan slowly ramps up til the gpu stays at a constant 78C.. if the temps start dropping the fan speed drops with it until the fan speed is at 30% which is the lowest it will go. but if you really want to lower your temps, drop the gpu clock 25-35mhz it shouldn't make a huge difference in performance but it should drop the gpu temp by 3-5C. the shader clocks don't have as big of an impact in temps as the gpu clock does, so just mess around with it until you get a temp/performance that is a good compromise.

My self i have a 9800gt {modded to gtx} 600@680MHz stock vcore max temp 65C under full load tops, custom air cooling 100% all ways on \ hardwired in to the mobo ~ desktop card g92b core

lots of laptops tend to overheat like mad, don't know if id even try and overclock something like that in one. Just sounds like a bad idea all the way around.

Well, i have my laptop on a stand now. A little frame thing by C-Data. It stays pretty cool to the touch, and doestn seem excessively hot at all. I used to have overheating issues with this laptop to the point it would shut down and not recognized the HDD. But I cleaned it a bit (didnt remove cover, just blasted air through it), it got cool, but the feet are too small and it overheats on surfaces. Now that i have it on a frame, it runs very nice. Figured Id oc it, and see what happened. So far so good.

i'd just buy one of those 20-30 dollar laptop coolers.. work wonders. and you can get them in a wedge shape similar to the stand you are currently using. probably the best investment i ever made with my laptop.

My issue is my laptop is a bit different than the norm. The GPU and CPU are up alone the left side (under the ESC button, I can feel heat down to my palm resting on the bottom). The intake and exhaust for these components is all on the top left side. Which most coolers dont direct more air there. And its 18.4", so not many coolers fit. Infact I have yet to find one other then this, or suction cups that fit.
